I haven’t posted in what seems like forever but I just had to share this shot of our sweet dog Lyla playing in the snow! She thought every time we threw a snowball that she was supposed to catch it 😅 so it took a few tries but I got a good capture of that process. She probably had brain freeze later but it was so much fun to watch her play in the snow ❤️

Introducing the eggplant leafroller moth (lineodas integra). A few days ago, there were three or four of these on the chicken coop in our backyard (no chickens in it currently or I’m sure these little guys would have been eaten 😜). And they were so still that they made the perfect models and this was the best stack I got 👏🏻 around 30 images, swipe for the super cool details! 😁

It has been much too long since you’ve seen a focus stack from me, so here you are! This is synchlora aerata, a master of disguise in the tiny world. While I don’t have the specific scientific details of how they do it, if you scroll and look close you’ll see some webbing holding scraps of plant matter to its back to disguise it from predators. I hope you enjoy!

Ever seen a spider surrounded by dreamy water droplets? Me neither 😜 but I hope you enjoy it!

Say hello to the VERY spooky spined micrathena 👀 (that’s the name for a broad range of similar looking arachnids) I couldn’t get a clear picture bc this guy was just swinging in the wind but I couldn’t help but try! I went for a more fall-feeling edit now that we are in autumn, and I hope you enjoy the spooky legs in the last picture 😜.

I took a break from posting this weekend to spend time with the family, so here’s a throwback and possible repost lol of a shoot I did over four years ago 😜 I’ll be back to morning posts tomorrow!

Here’s another perspective of the “light cresting the flower” shot from a few days ago. Just so cool that I got to see the spider holding the ant like that. For size reference, the spider and ant combo were maybe 3mm in total size, making for a SUPER tiny shot. The image is definitely not as detailed as it could be, but that’s a sacrifice you make when you shoot in low light and forget to use your flash 😅
