Take a look at the difference in these two videos!

We were called out to do an analysis on a water pump that wasn’t running at its best. The video on the left is what we were presented with upon arrival. By using our ODS technology we were able to determine that the issue was the loose base the water pump was sitting on. The vibration was causing the shifting you can see in the video, which is what was causing the pump to underperform. Once the recommended repairs were completed we took another ODS video that you can see on the right. We were pleased to see substantial improvements. The vibration was reduced from .4445 to .0947 inches per second. That resulted in a 78% decrease in vibration!

Below we have another overhung fan that we did a deflection shape analysis on. It has an excessive amount of vibration causing its productivity output to be less than optimal. Can you figure out what’s causing all the unnecessary vibration? Can you figure out what the vibration did to the fan to cause it to under preform?

We used our high tech ME’scope software to determine where the vibration was coming from, and what part of the fan the vibration had effected. Since we have access to this cutting edge technology we were able to quickly tell the client exactly what the problem was and exactly how to fix it.

Once the suggested repairs are made to the fan we will be returning to complete a follow up ODS analysis to ensure the fan is performing as it should.

Another great day in the office for PdMS!

We completed a deflection shape analysis on an overhung fan that wasn’t running properly. Our analysis brought two different issues to light that were causing an improper performance of the fan. We realized that the underlying issues were an eccentric rotor and soft foot condition. You can see in the first animation that the fan has a lot of vibration. The second animation shows the fan operating after repairs were made with significantly less vibration. The repair on the fan resulted in the vibration dropping from 1.57 IPS to .127 IPS.
This is a 91.9% decrease in vibration levels.
