“How was school?” “Fine.” 💬

Sometimes, there’s more behind that one-word answer. Everyday conversations give children a chance to explain a challenge, ask for help, and think through a solution, and parents a chance to listen.

Helping your child find their voice starts with moments like these.

Want to learn how we help students build confidence in speaking up? Join our live Meet & Greet! Meet the Capitol Debate team, explore our programs, and ask questions about the right fit for your child.

“Will I make friends?”
For a child heading to camp, that question can matter just as much as what they’ll learn. 💙
At Capitol Debate, building communication skills goes hand in hand with meeting new people, sharing ideas, and feeling part of a supportive community.
Hear from Benjamin, a returning camper, about the sense of belonging that makes camp special.

If your child could choose one subject to study each year, what would it be? 📚💡

Art? Coding? Music? Something their school doesn’t offer yet?

Ask them: “Should students get to choose one subject, or should all subjects be required?”

Then ask the debate-building follow-up: “What’s your strongest reason?”

Share their answer in the comments; we’d love to hear both sides! 👇

Will my teenager find kids their age at camp?
For Nicholas, a 15-year-old sophomore attending for the first time, the answer was yes.
“My entire class is my age, and there are people older than me in here.”
He already felt comfortable with public speaking—but wanted to improve. At camp, he found interactive classes, new friends, and coaching on hand gestures and body language.
His takeaway? “I would love to come back.”
