Please share this link with anyone you know in the Canton / North Canton area. I only have a couple more weeks to get enough signatures to help provide an alternative to the same old two parties.

I realized that even before thinking of running for political office to advocate for my district, I have already been advocating for it!

Alexander Haas Files Federal Lawsuit Over Unauthorized Tree and Bush Clearing Beyond Easement Limits
Canton, Ohio — Alexander Haas, candidate for the Ohio House of Representatives in District 49, has filed a federal lawsuit ,case 5:25-cv-00274 in the Northern District of Ohio, alleging that tree and bush clearing was conducted well beyond the limits permitted by an established easement, resulting in significant and improper destruction of private property.
The lawsuit seeks $5,000,000 in punitive damages, intended not for personal enrichment, but as a deterrent against future abuse of easement authority and similar practices that infringe on the rights of property owners.
If awarded, the punitive damages would be distributed as $1,000,000 to each of the following five nonprofit legal aid organizations, all of which provide legal services to Ohio citizens who often lack the resources to defend their property and civil rights:
Legal Aid Society of Cleveland
Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati
Legal Aid of Western Ohio (LAWO)
Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio
Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio (LASCO)
“The purpose of punitive damages is deterrence,” Haas said. “This lawsuit is about accountability and ensuring that powerful actors cannot exceed their legal authority without consequences. Directing any punitive award to Ohio’s legal aid organizations ensures that citizens have greater protection against similar conduct in the future.”
Haas emphasized that easements grant limited rights, not unrestricted control, and that exceeding those limits undermines fundamental property rights. The lawsuit asserts that the clearing went materially beyond what was authorized, causing unnecessary and irreversible harm.
As a candidate for the Ohio House, Haas stated that the case reflects his broader commitment to the rule of law, property rights, and equal access to justice, regardless of a citizen’s financial means.
Further details regarding the lawsuit will be addressed through the court process.
