Hi all,

Once again, thank you to everyone who’s contributed time and plants toward making the Silo Garden on the Hill happen.

In July, a bare hill became a garden complete with birds, butterflies, bees, and the occasional deer. Dozens of perennial flowers are blooming, and surprise wildflowers present themselves daily.

Now that the garden has taken off, it’s time for weeding. Our next goal: manicure, shape, and maintain the paths and lawns around the garden to create the canvas on which the painting is painted. This includes weeding the main garden plus the steep hill outside the fence, and introducing low-growing ground covers that allow visibility into the garden beyond it.

We’re accepting donations of flowering and non-flowering deer-resistant plants for that transition — low-growing junipers, periwinkle, creeping phlox, creeping thyme, stonecrop, and colorful daylilies at the base.

ENGN Open House Saturday July 25

ENGN brought poetry, books, and seedballs to the annual Callicoon Country Fair festivities last Saturday. It was a beautiful day for people to wander over to the Weigh Station and get to know more about ENGN, The Weigh Station, and the Silos Pollinator Garden. Poems were read, written, and exchanged on the Weigh Station Poetry Clothesline. We gave away hundreds of seeds in the form of seedballs that can be scattered in the fall to encourage the spread of pollinator-friendly wildflowers. The Silos Garden was gloriously in bloom and alive with Monarch butterflies, bees, and other pollinators.

The Weigh Station itself is a beautiful thing: a meeting place, an art space, a classroom, a podium and stage. We had the opportunity on Saturday to introduce the work of ENGN and invite participation in events to come by encouraging people to sign up for the ENGN newsletter. In the meantime, stop by the Weigh Station Poetry Clothesline anytime and to read and share. Paper and pencils are handy.
