Interested in growing your own oyster mushrooms? You don't even need a garden, these will grow right in a bag inside! join us on June 16th from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm to make your very own grow bag that will be ready to harvest in a few weeks! We will learn about different types of mushroom growing techniques as well. Registration is $10 and limited to 20 people. Please call 706-629-8685 or email [email protected] to register! 🍀 Georgia 4-H served 201,793 (‼️) students last year, and the results of the 2025 National 4-H Index Study are in!

According to the survey:

▪️ 91% of respondents reported that 4-H has given them the opportunity to explore future careers.
▪️ 88% credited 4-H with helping them develop good character.
▪️ 84% credited 4-H with helping them develop responsibility.
▪️ 83% credited 4-H with helping them have a sense of purpose in life.

New World Screwworm has not been detected in Georgia, but livestock and pet owners should remain vigilant following a recent detection in Zavala County, TX.

Monitor animals for signs of infestation, including non-healing wounds, unusual discharge, or maggots in wounds.

Suspected cases should be reported immediately to the Georgia Department of Agriculture's Animal Health Division at 404-656-3667 or [email protected].

We are bringing back the Gordon County Homestead Series this June!! This series will be comprised of 5 different sessions here at the Gordon County Agricultural Service Center, located at 1282 Hwy 53 Spur, SW, Calhoun, GA 30701.
3 of these sessions are free, 2 of them are paid programs. All of them require pre-registration. To register, send an email to [email protected] or give us a call at 706-629-8685. See below for class dates and details!

June 2nd 6:00-7:30 pm - Seed Saving - FREE. Want to save seed from your own garden? Join us to learn how! We will have a live demo of one method!

June 4th 6:00-7:30 pm - Intro to Composting - FREE. Looking to start composting? Join us for the basics! Different methods, different containers... We will talk about what you need to know to get started!

June 16th 6:00-7:30 pm - Growing Oyster Mushrooms - $10 pre-registration required to save your spot. Limited to 20. Join us to make your very own oyster mushroom grow bag! June 23rd 6:00-7:30 pm - Fruit Trees and Small Fruits - FREE. Join Cherokee County ANR Agent, Josh Fuder, for an introduction to both fruit trees and growing small fruits!

June 30th 6:00-7:30 pm - Canning Strawberry Jam - $25 pre-registration required to save your spot. Limited to 12 people. Join Whitfield County FACS Agent, Ella Bennett, to can strawberry jam! You will leave with your own jar to take home!

Please be sure to register for classes that you will attend. Walk-ins are welcome for free classes, but if we do not have a minimum of 5 people per session registered, the class will be canceled.
