👂🐾 So… what exactly were those little things in our video last week?

If you saw Friday's TikTok, you got a close-up look at ear mites which are tiny parasites that can cause some very unhappy ears!

Ear mites commonly cause:
🐾 Frequent scratching at the ears
🐾 Head shaking
🐾 Red or irritated ears
🐾 Dark, crumbly debris that can look a little like coffee grounds
🐾 Tenderness or sensitivity around the ears

They're especially common in cats and kittens, but dogs can get them too. And because ear mites can spread between animals, it's important to consider the other pets in the household if one is affected.

One important thing to remember: not every dirty or irritated ear has ear mites. Ear infections, allergies, and other ear problems can look similar, so figuring out what's actually causing the problem matters.

🦷🐾 Does your pet need a dental?

Bad breath isn't just "dog breath." 😬

Some signs that your pet may need a dental include:

🦷 Bad breath
🦷 Yellow or brown buildup on the teeth
🦷 Red or bleeding gums
🦷 Difficulty chewing
🦷 Dropping food
🦷Pawing at the mouth

And sometimes, there are no obvious signs at all.

If your pet hasn't had their teeth checked recently, mention it at their next visit. We can take a look and help you decide what they need.

Rabies is one of the most serious diseases we encounter in veterinary medicine—but thankfully, it’s also highly preventable.

💉 Keeping your pet’s rabies vaccination up to date is one of the simplest and most important things you can do to protect them, your family, and your community.

Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms develop, and exposure can happen through the bite of an infected animal—including wildlife such as bats, skunks, raccoons, and foxes.

This World Rabies Day, take a moment to check your pet’s vaccine status. ❤️

A simple vaccine can protect a lifetime.

If you’ve been around BVC for a while, you may remember Aubrey! She was one of our long-term veterinary technicians before heading off to veterinary school—and we’ve loved getting to follow along as she works toward becoming a veterinarian herself.

After spending her summer working with us again, Aubrey is now back in Oregon starting her second year of vet school, and we couldn’t be more excited to see where this journey takes her.
