Hanz Creative Resurfacing

IT’S OFFICIAL! 🎉

After 29 years with NorthWestern Energy, I am officially RETIRED! ❤️

And that means Hanz Creative Resurfacing is now my FULL-TIME adventure!

I’m now accepting new clients for:
✨ Epoxy countertop resurfacing
✨ Furniture restoration & refinishing
✨ Custom resurfacing projects

I’m excited to see where this next chapter takes me and to have more time to do something I truly enjoy — taking the old, worn and outdated and giving it a whole new life.

Here’s to retirement… and apparently working for myself now. 😂❤️

Resurface, don’t replace.

Another one brought back to life! 🤎🤍

This vintage drop-leaf table appears to date to the early-to-mid 1900s. Pieces like this were made to be practical—leaves down to save space, one up for a smaller table, or both up for full dining space.

I refinished the top in a rich dark wood tone and gave the base and beautiful turned legs a fresh creamy-white finish, then refinished two chairs to coordinate.

It still has a few imperfections earned over decades of life—and that’s part of the charm of restoring old furniture. ❤️

Resurface, don’t replace.

✨ I’m still here — and I haven’t stopped creating!

It’s been a little quiet around Hanz Creative Resurfacing this past month, and I truly appreciate those of you who have reached out asking what I’m working on next. ❤️

Life has needed my attention in a few other places — helping my mom through some changes and getting ready for a pretty big change of my own… retirement from my corporate career! 🎉

That also means I’m getting closer to having more time to dedicate to Hanz Creative Resurfacing and the projects I love.

And today, I’m finally back in the shop. ❤️

My next project is a special one — this little drop-leaf table is getting a whole new life for my mom’s new apartment.

I have a plan for it… but I’m not showing you yet. 😉

What would YOU do with it?

Stay tuned — the transformations are coming back!

👀 NEXT PROJECT 👀

This one is going to be interesting!

There’s a lot to love about this piece—the beautiful wood grain, ornate details, fold-out top and all that character—but she’s definitely seen better days.

My first choice is always to restore and preserve the original beauty whenever I can. With the amount of damage on this one, though, I’m not sure yet how much of the original finish can be saved.

So… restoration or transformation? 🤔

I honestly don’t know yet—and that’s part of the fun.

Follow along and see where this one takes me. ❤️

Every drawer has a story

This Hamilton printer’s cabinet, dating to around 1910, was found in a print shop in Butte, Montana. My goal wasn’t to make it new—it was to restore its beauty while honoring its history.

Special thank you to Jonny Weitzel for bringing me this piece.

Thank you for following another restoration by Hanz Creative Resurfacing.

✨ Sometimes a piece doesn’t need to be stripped down—it just needs the right care. ✨

This beautiful antique child’s rocking chair came to me looking tired and worn, but beneath the years was a gorgeous piece just waiting to shine again.

Instead of a complete refinish, I carefully cleaned it, revived the original finish, and protected it while preserving its character and history. The result is a chair that looks refreshed—not over-restored.

One of my favorite parts of furniture restoration is knowing when to do less. Not every piece needs to be sanded to bare wood. Sometimes the goal is simply to bring back the beauty that’s already there.

If you have a piece that’s looking dull, scratched, or forgotten, I’d love to help you determine the best approach.
