Parents
As parents, mentors, grandparents, guardians, friends, we only want our children to be healthy and happy, but there isn’t a manual for that.
So, we either try to do better than our parents did or emulate their successes- seems logical except we are NOT our parents - and things are NOT the same.
The hardest part about raising children is the fine line we walk, letting them have their voice and experiences and letting them know where the boundaries are to which they can speak safely while protecting them from the things, the pain, we all went through but…
They have to fall in order to rise.
They have to learn accountability.
They must respect living things and teaching them mutual trust is imperative.
So, standing our ground on responsibility, respect, and kindness is never a give - all the rest is.
It’s silly to hover and try to control.
They will test us; sadden us, elate us and give us gray hair. But trying to subdue their interests, intelligence and intuition will backfire.
Resentment will be huge.
Don’t shut them down, but don’t let them cross your line.
It’s an incredible task, especially when they hurt and we can’t get inside their head.
All we can do is our best by being there and or be a presence at arms-length. When we love them up and give them space to be who they are - they flourish and they grow.
