When you know the times tables you can start practicing factor trees. Factor trees are a secret weapon in math.
Summer time is a useful time to practice math facts. So many students (even older students) have not mastered addition and multiplication facts. Phone apps are fun and right in your hand. Explore what is available and assess your child today. Be certain that he or she is not handicapped in math class because no one insisted on mastery of the math facts. It’s a big deal.

Some followers are wondering about summer opportunities for elementary students . . . I am probably going to do something for MASTERY OF MATH FACTS. The students I see are often struggling because they lack experience with numbers. I will likely send home family games to help saturate them with basic facts. They love competition. MORE INFORMATION WILL BE AVAILABLE IN MARCH.
I am starting to formulate summer plans. My thought right now is to offer readiness seminars. I recognize a need for students entering Algebra 1 or Algebra 2 to firm up fundamental skills. Perhaps a T-W-Th seminar once in June, once in July, and once in August. 9:00 to 11:00 AM or 1:00 to 3:00 PM. A minimum of four people would be needed to form a group. (The same concepts are taught in private lessons throughout the year.) Please contact me if you are interested or if you have other ideas,
The school year is almost over - ALMOST - but not yet. Students can make class time seem shorter by staying engaged and working even harder. This is the chance to work hard and boost your score And remember that your teacher needs your help as the snow melts and Spring Fever adds to the distractions. The countdown has begun !
Did you know that it’s normal to be confused in math class? Good teachers are presenting something new almost every day. And good teachers read the faces of the confused students who are still listening. Student reaction helps the teacher to slow down, to repeat the steps, to take questions, or to try a different approach. Students, stay engaged !
