Mayor Garcetti and the LA City Council have enacted the nation’s toughest earthquake retrofit ordinance. Their vision and leadership will prove indispensable in making certain that the Los Angeles basin will survive the next major earthquake. This ordinance will ensure a significant reduction in loss of lives and prevent economic collapse.

An estimated 13,500 soft-first-story buildings, which are typically wood-frame structures with large spaces such as parking lots on the ground floor will need to be retrofitted. As many as 1,500 brittle concrete buildings will also require upgrades.

Congratulations to Sal Dorado Salas, S.E.
Risha’s Latest Success

Risha Engineering is very pleased to announce that Sal Dorado Salas has successfully passed all the required examinations and is now a licensed Structural Engineer. Being granted the authority to use the title Structural Engineer is no small feat. It requires 40 hours of examinations in addition to gaining a minimum of 3 years’ experience after obtaining the PE license. This experience must be obtained while working with another Structural Engineer. Sal has reached this significant milestone in a relatively short period, which is a testimony to his intellect, skill, and perseverance. In recognition of this achievement and his dedicated service to Risha Engineering, Sal has been promoted to Associate.

Sal’s experience spans many project types. He was instrumental in the successful ex*****on of a complicated structural repairs project for one of the major Hollywood Studios, is the primary project engineer on several mid-rise buildings, and is very well versed in working on building renovations and strengthening. In his 3 years at Risha Engineering, he has proved himself a key member of the staff, receiving many accolades from the firm’s clients and leadership. Warner Bros., Building 151, Burbank, CA

Risha Engineering Group provided structural engineering inspection, analysis and design for the extensive renovations of this building. The building is now occupied by Warner Bros. International Television Distribution arm of the Warner Bros. Television Group (WBTVG).

The project received a LEED Silver certification and was awarded the 2005 Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Award in the Sustainable Practices or Facilities category.

As part of a disciplined growth strategy, Risha Engineering has retained Mr. Rimah Nazzal, PE, SE, to lead the Nevada office as its Principal. Mr. Nazzal’s experience spans over 25 years, with demonstrated success in structural evaluation, analysis and design, project management and staff supervision.

Mr. Nazzal is joining the firm as Principal. He’s able to apply policies and practices used in multi-disciplined engineering design industry including civil design, materials, response of individual structural components, and behavior of entire structural systems, as well as a thorough working knowledge of all applicable building codes, standards and design practices. He has established and maintained cooperative and effective working relationships with project stakeholders and building officials.
