Our Andrew’s Game Day program has already created some incredible memories this season for our region’s pediatric cancer fighters with more to come at today’s game. 🙌💙❤️🏈

Our Buffalo Bills family helps our mission reach the end zone in so many meaningful ways. Special thanks to our Board member Sean O’Brien, Bills Director of Premium Sales and Service, who is a tireless team player for the families we serve and helps make our Game Day program all that it can be.

Sean shared: “I support P.U.N.T. because I personally witnessed the profound impact this organization has on families faced with a pediatric cancer diagnosis. When my friend Jon’s son Cooper was diagnosed with pediatric cancer, they provided unwavering support while he and his family endured the most painful and devastating time of their lives. The amazing work this team does comes straight from the heart, and is absolutely incredible. It has inspired me to give back and I couldn’t be more honored to serve on the Board of Directors for this life-changing nonprofit organization.”

Pickleball for P.U.N.T.! 🎗️
We are filled with gratitude as we wrap up the 3rd Annual Pickleball for P.U.N.T. tournament that took place at Buffalo RiverWorks this past Saturday! What began as a simple idea to bring people together through pickleball has grown into an incredible community coming together to support children and families affected by pediatric cancer. 💛

This year’s tournament was SOLD OUT, and thanks to the incredible generosity of our players, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and supporters, we raised more than $10,000 (a Pickleball for P.U.N.T. record) for P.U.N.T.!🙌

Our Tribute to a Hero 🩺🥼💛🎗️
With heavy hearts we mourn the loss of Dr. Marty Brecher, beloved P.U.N.T. board member, who died unexpectedly this past Friday.

For more than three decades, Dr. Brecher devoted his life to children and adolescents with cancer and blood disorders. As Chair of Pediatrics at Roswell Park and Chief of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, he helped shape pediatric cancer care throughout Western New York. His legacy of clinical excellence, research, education, and above all, humanity, touched thousands of children and families.

To so many patients, families, colleagues, and friends, he was a hero in the truest sense of the word. But he never saw himself that way.

Marked by extraordinary humility, he was always quick to correct anyone who addressed him as “Dr. Brecher,” with his gentle but unmistakably firm response:

“Call me Marty.”

His titles, accomplishments and awards (including our 2014 “Champion for Children” award) were numerous. But those who knew him best will remember the way he made people feel: seen, heard, respected, reassured, and never alone.

Retirement from active clinical practice never meant retirement from caring about the families he treated.

Dr. Brecher served on the P.U.N.T. board for the past five years and was a Vice Chair. He was on our Bereavement Committee and rarely missed our Day of Remembrance at Stillwater Farm or our Remembrance Weekend grief retreat because he believed it was important to stand beside bereaved families and especially to be there for the dads.

Fellow P.U.N.T. Board member and longtime Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center colleague Terrie Carbone shared her firsthand reflection:

“Working alongside Dr. Brecher was one of the greatest honors of my nursing career. He was one of the most selfless, kind, and compassionate human beings I have ever known. He was beloved by our patients and their families, offering a calm, steady presence that brought empathy, understanding, and hope during their most difficult days. He led by example, inspiring all of us to show up as our best selves, both in our work and in our humanity. May we all continue to carry his light forward. “

That is the measure of the man we lost. Not simply the physician who treated children. Not simply the scholar, educator, leader, or mentor.
A man who brought kindness and gentility into the hardest, darkest places. A man who knew the power of simply being there.

We extend our love and condolences to his wife Geri and his family.

We are heartbroken by his unexpected loss, yet forever grateful and humbled that we had the extraordinary privilege of having Dr. “Call Me Marty” Brecher as part of our P.U.N.T. family.

He will be deeply missed.❤️‍🩹
