Ever wonder what separates the top shops from the average ones? Derek Korn from Modern Machine Shop magazine gives a great analysis comparing the two.
Many shops "implement" these metrics to obtain certifications (i.e. ISO, AS, etc.) but in the grand scheme of things, only a small percentage really embrace and adopt them into their culture.

QTA Machining welcomes the addition of our brand new Okamoto OGM 12.60 UNC III grinder! This CNC OD/ID grinder allows us to maintain diametrical tolerances of 0.0002” on parts with centers up to 60” in length.
The benefit of acquiring this technology is a 64% grinding expense reduction and improved lead time, for the shafts depicted, which ultimately enables us to be more competitive in the marketplace.

Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) is the manufacturing process whereby a desired shape is obtained using electrical discharges. Our recently acquired Sodick VZ500LH wire-EDM uses electrically charged brass wire to precisely cut shapes of all kinds.
Submerged in water, the CNC controlled machine cuts an internal spline in this 9.63” long sleeve, maintaining a 0.00015” tolerance, which is half the size of an average human hair.
The EDM provides a much more cost effective solution with lower volume runs in comparison to traditional gear shaping.
