🪖U.S. Hi, I am Dale Ranney, and I’ve been creating photographs for nearly 50 years.

🌍No filter—just real moments in wild places

www.daleranneyphotography.com From the early days of manual cameras and darkrooms to today’s digital tools, my passion has remained the same—capturing the world as I see and feel it in the moment. I first fell in love with photography as a kid, saving up my newspaper route money to buy a Nikon DSLR. After years of photo classes in high school, I joined the U.S. Navy and served as a photographer aboard the USS Enterprise. That experience deepened both my technical skills and my love for adventure. These days, I focus on nature and wildlife, sharing my experiences through images that are honest and true to the moment. I consider myself an old-school photographer—not a digital artist—and I find the most joy hiking through the wild, camera in hand, capturing what inspires me.

Apples in the basket. Time in the pumpkin patch and on the porch. Something new for the wall, perhaps?
What are you up to this Fall? Tell me below.
October has a way of turning into a whole season of small hauls. "Pink clouds over Whalehead Club" could be this weekend's special find.

When going to a place I frequently go to like Watkins Glen State Park I like to challenge myself to find a different shot that I’ve never taken there before. They may not be the usual shots you see everywhere but the show you can find beauty wherever you stop and look for it.

Mass-produced decor fills a blank wall space, but artwork by an artist changes how a room feels to live in. As we enter cozy season, that vibrancy is important.
"Praying Mantis vertical portrait" comes from one working artist, not a warehouse. Have a closer look.

It's darker earlier now that it's officially fall. Tell me, do you like the ten minutes before the house wakes up, or are you a night owl?
Cozy nights and quiet mornings pair well with art.
Here's "posingpennylane2SM" for you to ponder today.

Historic Corolla Park sunset. Almost nothing about this image was done using my usual techniques and many rules of photography and composition were broken. But in the end it somehow expresses my feelings at that time. Wanting to bring out more of the beautiful reflection I used a 10 stop ND filter for a longer exposure to smooth out the water. Thus a rather dreamy feel with lots of ghost people on the pier and overall a rather dreamy ”painterly” feel to the image. I’d say my usual style is dark, crisp and deep saturation which this is not. But like life, some will like it while others will not. And that’s okay. ❤️

It's October! Have your blankets and sweaters come out of storage? Is the nesting instinct kicking in?
How is the art in your home making you feel? Could "Letchworth September Milky Way" earn a place in your favorite place this season?

Matching is for socks. Art is supposed to have a little friction with its surroundings.
How about a work like "B Reynolds Falls"? Could it add something to your space for the exact reason that it doesn't blend in perfectly?
