The Buffalo PBA attended the end of session PCNY Legislative Conference over the weekend and was honored to meet retired Port Authority Detective William Jimeno.

Detective Jimeno is survivor of the September 11 attacks, buried under rubble for 13 hours when the World Trade Center collapsed. He shared a powerful message of faith, hope, and resilience while honoring those lost.

The movie “World Trade Center” was based on his experiences that day, which he detailed in his book “Through the Darkness.”

Crime is only down when viewed through the lenses of long ago comparisons. However, when looking at crime compared to last year, it is up. Violent and non-violent crimes alike. There were another 4 shooting victims this weekend! Packages continue to be stolen. Victims of all kind are rapidly being created in Buffalo.

Patrol can’t keep up with many crime scenes, being over 100 officers understaffed. First line Supervisors are running short as well, currently 5 under minimum City-Wide.

The proactive nature to preventing crime has been eroded by the inactivity of our City leaders and we are increasingly becoming a reactionary department only.

The only answer: More officers need to be added. Current officers need to be retained. A new creative contract is needed. Every day that passes without real collaboration from City Hall will make it harder to reclaim the safety of the City of Buffalo.

Mickey never shied away from his pro police and pro safety platforms, even in recent years when others cowardly about-faced to stay in office. Mickey didn’t have to find his way back to public safety, because he never left.

Buffalo Police Union begins contract talks with city | WBEN

On April 15 Dejuan L. Williams, also known as Juan Quionos, shot a store clerk while robbing him of cash and ci******es. When the Buffalo police responded he shot at them before being disarmed by the responding patrol officers. While attempting to escape he then carjacked another innocent citizen.

Dejuan was on parole during this crime spree for his previous violent crimes.

Dejuan pled guilty last week to a dozen more felonies and misdemeanors, including multiple degrees of attempted murder.

Maybe he will be kept away from vulnerable citizens and placed behind bars this time?
Sentencing is scheduled for November 17.

Heroic actions were taken by officers responding that night, and fantastic investigations were conducted by Detectives Ruggiero, Zanghi, Costantino, and Det Sgt McCabe who followed up on this series of violent crimes.

Never forget the tragedy of 9/11.
