A large community celebration is planned on July 13 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of opening of the FJ Torras Causeway! There will be food trucks, live music from Jekyll Island Big Band, opening remarks by Governor Brian Kemp, and a ton of fun things to do for the kiddos and the whole family.

This event is free to attend. However, we will be hosting a fish fry fundraiser for Keep Golden Isles Beautiful and tickets can be purchased at the following link:

2024 Preservation Award Winner! Designed in the Spanish Revival style by noted architect Francis L. Abreu, the Visitors Club was constructed in 1931 as a tourist welcome center for the Brunswick Board of Trade. Used as a welcome center until 2012, the building faced deterioration until a collaborative preservation effort revived its historic charm. Initiated in 2019 by the Visitors Club Preservation Fund, the City of Brunswick and the Torras Foundation, the preservation project aimed at restoring the building's original design. The project included roof repairs, window reglazing and reconstructing deteriorated elements, including porch railings and the iconic weathervane that sat on the cupola of the building. Original light fixtures were cleaned and rewired and the wood trim on the exterior was repainted its original color. For decades, the Visitors Club has welcomed both visitors and residents of St. Simons Island. The restoration of this historic landmark resonates with community members and visitors alike as a source of pride for the people of Brunswick.

This weekend we were honored to receive the Excellence in Restoration award for our work on The Visitors Club from The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation!

Mike Cudd, with Duke's Coastal Flooring, has volunteered to replace the hardwood flooring in the The Visitors Club! Phase 2 is coming along nicely 😍

Jeffrey Shipskie with Intercoastal Drywall sent a crew over today to remove all of the Sheetrock! These fellas worked all day at it and we could not be more thankful for their contribution to this community project.

Ryan Grady, with Lang Building Supply, came by yesterday to provide us with a price for replacing the rusted and failing windows at the Visitors Club.
