Once we got moved back into the house the outside work has gone as slow as cane syrup. We have learned:
1. Island time is real and not for Atlanta sissies who think otherwise.
2. It rains a LOT here in August and September.., or at least it has this year.
3. Good concrete contractors are hard to come by in these parts.
Anyway, we’re still not done but we’re currently making some progress so that’s encouraging.

I’ve lost count of the days, but we are living in the house! There are still a few things to be done inside and a lot outside but we’re slowly unpacking and getting settled.
Most of the photos are of the grill house but I took a couple inside in presentable areas.

Day 104: We’re getting closer! Cabinets and built ins are in. New plumbing was tied in today- we think. In the meantime the A/C in the old part of the house went out and it’s been nearly 100 degrees here. Not good.
Appliances have been installed but you’ll see there are some scrapes and bruises on the fridge. Also not good.
Buddy attended a grilling event in Atlanta last week with James. It was a grill guys’ dream come true apparently because B. chose 2 grills for the as yet to be named structure. Latest front runner - Copacabranda? Thoughts?

Day 91: It’s been a while since we updated. Partly because progress seemed pretty slow, and partly because the progress just wasn’t pretty to look at. Plumbing and electrical are just not very photogenic. However, we’re rockin’ and rollin’ now it seems.

Day 72: What is I believe the last layer of stucco as gone on the addition. We have Sheetrock that’s been mudded and was being sanded today.
I’ve sold the old appliances and the new ones are in the garage. A lot of the work in the old part of the house is complete.
The Brandstand/Grill Pavilion is underway.

Day 62: It’s been 10 days since the last update. We have a new roof, stucco on the addition and the flooring is in the old part of the house.
Sister in law Carol has arrived to help plan the landscaping. We had a blast learning about what plants do well locally at Dave’s Landscaping & Nursery. They were soooo helpful.
We also went on a garden tour yesterday- just for fun and to get ideas (some of the ideas would take a million dollar budget unfortunately).

This little space was the laundry room. To my back is the door to the garage and ahead is the kitchen. It’s only wide enough for a washer and dryer. Since we’re including a laundry room in the addition we want to incorporate this space into the kitchen.
We plan a cased opening vs a door and lower cabinets with a wine cooler- open shelves above. We’re calling it a butler’s pantry but that name has been met with opposition. Suggestions?

Day 52: Much has been accomplished since the last update though most of it isn’t pretty to look at. Of course we think it’s all beautiful because it represents progress. We are so ready to be back in our own house!
I’m including a screenshot of the plans for anyone interested (Debbie Lynn - tell Foster). They show the remodel of the primary suite plus the addition. Miscellaneous other projects happening in the existing part of the house.
Last week we finished buying all of the tile in Atlanta. The light fixtures are all here as are the plumbing fixtures. Appliances have been shipped!

Just thought I would add a note for anyone following this project: our property backs up to one of the busiest roads on St Simons Island- Frederica Road. The storage area at the back of the addition is because we need storage and also for road noise abatement. We also plan a water feature at the back of the patio.Something like this

Day 39: Has it really only been 8 days since the last post, because so much has been accomplished!
All of the framing is complete, including the roof + the windows and doors in the addition have been installed.
We’ve also had a meeting with our contractor and the framer to come up with a plan for our grill pavilion (Brandstand Gary Jones?)
