This May, FEWGI New York proudly honors Haitian Heritage Month, celebrates Haitian Flag Day (May 18), and recognizes Mental Health Awareness Month—three powerful moments that remind us of the strength, resilience, and unity within our community.
🇭🇹 Honoring Haitian Heritage & Flag Day
Haitian Heritage Month is a time to uplift the rich history, culture, and contributions of Haiti and the Haitian diaspora. Haitian Flag Day, celebrated on May 18, symbolizes unity, independence, and pride. As we reflect on the legacy of Haiti—the first Black republic—we are inspired by the courage and perseverance that continue to shape our community today.
At FEWGI New York, we celebrate this heritage by embracing culture, storytelling, and community connection. We honor the trailblazers, families, and youth who carry this legacy forward with pride and purpose.
Mental Health Awareness Matters
May is also Mental Health Awareness Month, a vital reminder that wellness is just as important as cultural pride. Within our communities, conversations about mental health are growing—but there is still work to do to break stigma and ensure access to support.
We encourage open dialogue, self-care, and checking in on one another. Strength is not only found in resilience, but also in vulnerability, healing, and seeking support when needed.
