Many of you might not know this, but I actually studied Media & Communications in college.

However, right after graduation, I quickly found myself on the path of community health education. While my career continuously evolved, I eventually ended up coaching women through eating disorder recovery. In 2020 I started my recovery podcast, Full and Thriving, and it quickly became a top 2.5% ranking show with over 200,000 downloads.

As a coach and community health educator, my podcast allowed me to expand my reach, my impact and my practice. I saw the power of long form content as a trust building tool that converted listeners into 1:1 clients. I also watched with amazement as my show helped people recover all over the world.๐Ÿคฏ

My podcast was how I merged my university degree with my passion for community health and coaching.

As time has passed, Iโ€™ve observed within myself how my podcast meant so much more to me than a marketing tool. It was one of the truest forms of self expression I had, and it anchored me to my voice and my media roots.

This past year Iโ€™ve been helping professionals and brands start their podcasts- many of whom also want to share their message with the world and help others. Itโ€™s been so rewarding and fufilling, and Iโ€™m focusing more and more on this endeavor.

If you want to start a podcast for your brand or business, I would love to be your guide. Follow for podcasting tips, wisdom and news. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐ŸŽ‰

When a big emotion comings storming through, or you anticipate a challenging week, are you going to โ€œsee what happensโ€ with recovery or are you going to hunker down and stick to your commitments (especially with food and movement)?

Playing it by ear, or seeing how it goes, can only take you so far. Itโ€™s important to stay committed to your recovery plan no matter the circumstance or what emotions are coming up. โ€œWeโ€™ll see what happensโ€ is keeping one foot in the door and one foot out. Full-on, consistent commitment is key.

Of course, nothing is going to be perfect all the time and mistakes happen, but if the full, steady commitment is truly there in your actions, the results happen. You can do this!! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’™

You can:
Listen to every podcast.
Read every book.
Take every course.
Go to therapy weekly.
Journal daily.

But if youโ€™re not eating the food your body needsโ€ฆyou will stay stuck!! You cannot THINK and REASON with yourself into recovery without taking action to support your healing too.

If youโ€™re struggling to eat, itโ€™s important to ask for help! Whether thatโ€™s going to a higher level of care for accountability at meals, hiring a live-in coach, or engaging in meal support with your team. There are ways to make eating easier again. ๐Ÿ’—one step at a time, friends!

๐ŸŒŸ Understanding Body Checking Behaviors ๐ŸŒŸ

Body checking behaviors can significantly sabotage eating disorder recovery by reinforcing negative self-image and obsessive thoughts. Body checking can also trigger anxiety and depression, distort your body image or undermine your treatment goals. Here are 5 common types and how they impact recovery:

1. Mirror Checking ๐Ÿชž
- Constantly looking at yourself in the mirror (or your reflection when walking past buildings/windows) to scrutinize your body can perpetuate dissatisfaction and anxiety. This habit keeps you focused on perceived flaws rather than celebrating progress.

2. Measuring Body Parts ๐Ÿ“
- Frequently measuring waist, thighs, arms, etc., can fuel obsession over specific body parts and hinder overall recovery. This behavior creates a false sense of control and feeds into disordered thinking.

3. Weighing Yourself โš–๏ธ
- Regularly stepping on the scale can lead to fixation on numbers, detracting from more meaningful indicators of health and wellness. It can also trigger emotional responses that derail your progress.

4. Comparing with Others or photos of your Past Self๐Ÿ‘ฅ
- Continuously comparing your body to others, or photos of your past self, whether in person or on social media, can erode self-esteem and foster unrealistic standards. This comparison can drive negative self-talk and unhealthy behaviors.

5. Pinching or Poking your body โœ‹
- Repeatedly pinching or poking areas of your body to check for fat or changes reinforces negative body image and can lead to body dysmorphia. This behavior keeps the focus on appearance rather than overall health.

๐ŸŒˆ Building Awareness and Taking Action

Building awareness around body checking behaviors is crucial for recovery. Start by tracking when and why you engage in these behaviors to identify triggers and patterns. Discuss your findings in therapy or with your coach to support you in developing healthier coping strategies. Set realistic goals to minimize or eliminate these habits, and celebrate small victories along the way. Remember, recovery is a journey, and reducing body checking behaviors is a vital step toward a healthier and happier you. ๐ŸŒŸ

One of the most eye opening and helpful parts of my 1:1 recovery coaching work is getting the opportunity to eat meals and snack with my clients. During one of my meetings today, we challenged having a WHOLE bagel with cream cheese ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป Being able to sit and finish the entire thing was the challengeโ€ฆ.this is the 3rd week in a row we have challenged this because repetition is key!! ๐Ÿ”‘ The more you can expose yourself to different challenges, the easier it gets over time and the hope is that you carry the skills forward throughout the week๐Ÿฅฐ Every time you complete a challenge with your coach itโ€™s more EVIDENCE that you can do hard things!!

Also, how hilarious is this song ๐ŸŽต?! It had me giggling for sure ๐Ÿ˜‚ Comment your fab bagel below ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป
