Last Friday, Rena Pederson spoke at the Lifetime Learning luncheon about her investigation of the Dallas jewel thief known as the King of Diamonds. Stephen Harrigan will speak at the Story Peddler in Bellville this Thursday March 19th at 6 p.m. His latest book is An Anchor in the Sea of Time which explores themes of identity, memory, and history. Don’t miss!

The King of Diamonds by Rene Pederson is a spellbinding yarn about the Dallas underworld in the late fifties and early sixties. It’s a true story of a jewel thief that was never caught. Pederson entertains the reader with the wealthiest of Dallas high society, mobsters, Hollywood celebrities, businessmen, and political figures all rolled into one. You can’t believe it’s all true. But Pederson is an award winning journalist and she makes it believable.

“The Secret Court of the Republic” with Justice Ken Wise

Justice Ken Wise of the 14th Court of Appeals is a passionate storyteller of Texas history. Born and raised in Houston, he traces his ancestry to the Republic of Texas in 1836. He is the creator and host of the award-winning Texas history podcast Wise About Texas which tells the stories behind the history. In 2021 Justice Wise was honored by the Texas House of Representatives for his contributions to preserving the history of our state.
