On the surface, they are not good, obviously.
It’s important to recognize the problems these behaviors, feelings, and thoughts actually produce.
However, if we assume the “part” has a positive purpose for doing the thing we don’t like, we can create a positive relationship.
Imagine a close friend did something that annoyed you.
If you wanted to create conflict with them, just assume they are “out to get you.”
Works every time! 😄
If you want to resolve the issue instead, assume they have good intentions. Give them the benefit of the doubt.
The same concept applies to our relationship with ourselves.
After all, you aren’t going to find inner peace if you are constantly fighting with yourself.
Assuming positive intent is just the first step in Core Transformation.
Each step builds upon the next systematically, leading to potentially mind-blowing results.

The Missing Key to Effective Relationship Work – Transforming Our Reactivity
According to research, having healthy social relationships predicts long-term happiness better than anything else. In fact, a recently completed Harvard study found that satisfaction with relationships also predicts our long-term health!
So to have long, happy, and healthy lives, it’s worth investing in our relationships. How can we “optimize” our relationships with loved ones, work colleagues, and others in our community?
Much of the relationship advice you can find centers on what to say and do. For sure, some of this advice is very useful. For example, it’s useful to learn to express what we want, without coming across as critical or demanding.
However, there’s an important key that’s often overlooked: our emotional state.
Often when people express what they want, it’s after their emotional buttons have gotten pushed. Perhaps they think their partner is blaming or ignoring them, or not treating them with respect.
And here’s the deal… If we’re feeling angry, or afraid the other person won’t hear us out, or any other strong emotion, then no matter how good our communication skills are, it’s unlikely we’ll get a good response from the other person. It’s more likely that the other person goes into their own reactive mode, and gets their buttons pushed, even if we’re using all the right words!
Some of the most respected couples therapists report that when one or both partners are highly reactive, and go into a fight-or-flight response, there isn’t really a productive way forward – at least not until that reaction has calmed down.
So, the easy path to a healthier relationship means we need to have a way to transform our reactivity, that really works.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a method of personal change that has recently become quite popular. Developed by Richard Schwartz, IFS is a “parts work” process, which means it works through exploring our inner experience in terms of “parts.” As an example, there may be a part of us that feels hurt, and another part that wants to defend.
IFS teaches ways to help our inner parts to get along better, to release burdens that were taken on from other people, and to be led by the Self. This can create more inner harmony and understanding, and allow the system to be more at ease.
However, for some parts, the path to healing is long. Some parts may never fully let go of destructive or counter-productive patterns. Is there a direct path toward healing that would help these inner parts?
Increasingly, people with an IFS background are finding their way to Core Transformation. Core Transformation, developed by Connirae Andreas, is another parts method. With Core Transformation, we can help each inner part access a powerful resource, called a “Core State.” This is the deepest yearning of this part. The Core State isn’t apparent by looking at the part’s behavior, feeling, or thinking patterns, which may be very limiting or even harmful. But through a precise methodology, we can help the part reach its Core State very reliably and quickly. And the Core State has a remarkable healing potential.
