God didn't give Abram a map. Just a promise and an invitation to go.

Most of us want certainty before we move. But the blessing is already here. The only question is where it's asking you to go next.

At Bothell UMC we say "You are welcome. You belong." In a world full of unrest and fear, we choose to be a community that stands with the people pushed to the edges. The displaced. The migrant. The oppressed. Those told there is no room for them. There is room here. There has always been room in God's kingdom.

Let us work together to create a loving community beyond the walls of the church, into our communities and the world.

Fear has a way of convincing us it's the first story. That scarcity is the deepest truth. That worth is something you earn your way into.

Genesis starts somewhere else entirely โ€” before striving, before shame, before any of us got anything right or wrong. Before fear, there is God. And God's first word over creation isn't a warning. It's a blessing.

This week, the government launched a website that describes human beings as aliens, complete with a map tracking arrests in your neighborhood and a tip line to report your neighbors.

WE WANT TO SAY CLEARLY: this is not the story we believe about the world. We believe every person โ€” regardless of where they were born, what language they speak, or what documents they carry โ€” bears the image of God. That is not a political statement. That is a theological one.

God does not ask us to fear the stranger. God asks us to welcome them. Over and over again, the people of God are reminded: you were once strangers too. Fear tells us to see neighbors as threats. But we belong to a different story, one that begins not with scarcity and suspicion, but with abundance, blessing, and the irreducible dignity of every human life.

No one is an alien. EVERYONE BELONGS. Let us lead with love โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ

We missed last weekโ€™s AANHPI Heritage Month postโ€ฆ so this week you get double the prophetic, liberating, and inspiring voices shaping the church and the world around us. ๐ŸŒ

Our hope is that learning from AANHPI Christian voices expands our understanding of Godโ€™s kingdom and reminds us that every voice matters, every story carries wisdom, and every person bears the image of God.

Thank you, Rev. Cruz Edwin Santos, for the timely message this past Sunday. For some, Rev. Santos' words brought a new perspective on Pentecost. For others, it was a reminder of the expansive kingdom of God and all who are included. May we all embrace the truth that the kingdom of God is not one of uniformity, but of the beauty of diversity, where all of humanity is beloved.

You can find the full sermon here - https://www.bothellumc.org/recent-services/v/2026-05-24.

We were so blessed to have Rev. Cruz Edwin Santos join us this Sunday! He share how the miracle of Pentecost wasn't that everyone suddenly sounded the same. It was that God showed up in every language, every culture, every story โ€” and didn't ask anyone to leave theirs at the door.

This Sunday we heard a different question โ€” not how the church can help Hispanic and Latinx communities survive, but how the Spirit is transforming the whole church through them.
