Sirius Service Dog Board & Train

3–6 Month Comprehensive Service Dog Training Program

Sirius Service Dog Board & Train is Nitro K-9’s most intensive and comprehensive Service Dog training program.

The program is named after Sirius, North’s Service Dog, and grew directly out of North’s experience training Sirius as her own Service Dog and becoming a trainer for Nitro K-9.

That experience helped shape Sirius into what it is today: a completion-based program built around consistency, real-world experience, thoughtful task training, and a strong working relationship between dog and handler.

Your dog will live and train with Nitro K-9 for approximately 3–6 months, depending on the individual dog, required tasking, progress, maturity, health, and home stays.

The 3–6 month timeframe is an estimate, not a guaranteed completion date.

Nitro K-9 makes the final professional determination regarding training progression, completion, graduation, and final return.

Program Assessment

Every prospective Sirius dog must complete an assessment before acceptance.

In-School Assessment: $100
In-Home Assessment: $300

The assessment allows us to evaluate temperament, confidence, environmental stability, physical suitability, previous training, and the handler’s individual Service Dog needs.

The full Program Fee is due in advance before any Sirius training slot, boarding space, start date, or booking is reserved or confirmed.

What Sirius Covers

Training is customized to the dog and handler and may include:

Advanced obedience
Hand and voice signal work
Handler engagement
Customized Service Dog task training
Psychiatric Service Dog tasking
Appropriate mobility or disability-related assistance tasks
Public-access preparation
Real-world environmental exposure
Socialization and neutrality around people and dogs
Confidence building
Working calmly around distractions
Training in stores, restaurants, businesses, crowds, vehicles, elevators, and other appropriate public environments

Tasking is customized around the handler’s disability-related needs and the abilities of the individual dog.

How to size your dogs training collar and a lot more -

One of the biggest mistakes I see is dogs wearing the wrong size prong collar.

Too loose, and it slides down the neck where it loses effectiveness. Too tight, and it’s uncomfortable and unnecessary.

A properly fitted prong collar should sit high on the neck, just behind the ears and under the jaw. It should be snug enough to stay in position without sliding, but not so tight that it’s creating constant pressure.

The right fit isn’t about being harsher—it’s about being clearer, safer, and more consistent for the dog.

A properly sized tool, combined with proper instruction, makes all the difference.
