Kids turn 18 every day but spring time becomes a busy time to prepare for highschool graduation and heading off to college. Did you know that once your child turns 18, you no longer have the automatic right to access their medical records, make healthcare decisions, or manage their finances, even in an emergency? If your child were to be in an accident and left unable to communicate, you could find yourself unable to step in without first going through a lengthy and expensive court process.
Check out this article on what this could mean for you. I am not an attorney, so I can't give you legal advice but feel free to contact me and I can help point you in the right direction.
Don't forget to call me to notarize your documents! ❤️

Tis the season to send your young adults off to college. Did you know that if you child is over 18 and there is a medical emergency that you can do nothing to help them, legally? I am not an attorney so I cannot give legal advice, but I highly recommend educating yourself on why your college student might need a durable power of attorney for health and financial. Some DPOA paperwork can be different for each state so again, educate yourself.
If your child wants to sign a DPOA giving you the ability to help with medical or financial decisions and you would prefer a mobile notary to come to you, call me.
*there are plenty of free forms out there, or contact an attorney to assist you. Google search free DPOA for _______ state.
There are also plenty of articles out there explaining why this is a good idea. College kids can be hesitant. They feel super independent and don't want mom and dad meddling, so before you tell your child that you think they should do this (because what 18 yr old wants to listen to their parents!) find an article that explains it so they understand why it's so important.
I am happy to give recs for attorneys so please reach out if you would like.

PSA: The number one complaint/comment I get when being called to do a notarization is "They don't have an ID." "How many seniors actually have ID anymore? They don't drive." "Oh it's fine, I can vouch for them."
The answer is easy! Every single person must have an ID to get a document notarized. There are a few ways around that but WA does not make it easy. It's sometimes, impossible to do it any other way.
If you have someone in your life that didn't renew their ID or thinks they just won't ever need it again, please do them a favor and help them get a current ID and keep it renewed.
DON'T KEEP ME A SECRET!!

February is a good time to take a deep breath now that the holidays are long behind us. Use this time to think about your future. Estate planning isn't just for seniors. If you have assets, investments, children etc. You should really think about your future and what that might look like.
The Estate Planning Must-Haves
Here is an estate planning checklist of items every estate plan should include:
Will/trust
Durable power of attorney
Beneficiary designations
Letter of intent
Healthcare power of attorney
Guardianship designations
We all know someone that didn't make plans for their estate and it ends up being a messy legal battle between family members. All these documents can easily be drawn up by an attorney. Some of the generic forms that will cover your basics can be found for free online on websites like eforms.com and many others you can find in a google search.
And don't forget! I can notarize them all. Just contact me. 425-667-9719 or [email protected]

Happy National Notary Day!

It's a beautiful day in the PNW. I didn't have a great night's sleep and started off with a negative attitude. I am now sitting in my happy place, enjoying my blooms, listening to birds, soaking up the sun. Telling myself it'll be a good day and to get out there and own it
