When property damage or injury has occurred that is likely to lead to litigation, surveyors are typically called in to perform a forensic survey. On site, a surveyor’s role is to capture the scene in its entirety before it gets disturbed. As a leader in survey and engineering for more than 25 years, we’ve performed countless forensic surveys in and around Boston. To learn more about the process behind forensic surveys and hear some of DGT’s most memorable forensic surveys, check out our latest blog:

Last week, John Lloyd, a Regional Survey Manager at DGT, PLS, and NSPS board member, traveled to Washington, D.C., for a spring NSPS meeting. While there, he explored a hidden treasure—the Washington Mini-Monument. Unknown to most, a 12-foot-tall Washington Monument replica resides underground and is actually a geodetic control point used by surveyors. In true surveyor fashion, John couldn’t resist scanning the monument and capturing the moment.

If satellite technology can provide insight about the structures aboveground, then why isn’t there a platform that provides the same information for belowground? Well, there is. Radar tomography allows for the discovery of undocumented telecom systems, abandoned facilities, underground vaults and tunnels—leading to accurate utility records and a safer environment for crew members and the public. In part two of our radar tomography blog series, we discuss how radar tomography methods, including data acquisition and analysis, enable precise, detailed information on underground assets—content our industry needs to succeed.
