This is an extraordinary accomplishment and a testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent of these student-athletes, coaches, and supporters. I am proud to join our community in celebrating this historic achievement and another championship for Taunton.

This weekend, two outstanding teams from the Third Bristol and Plymouth District will compete for MIAA State Championships, and I could not be more proud.

Congratulations to the Taunton High School Tigers and the Somerset Berkley Raiders on earning their spots in the state finals through hard work, determination, and an incredible season.

Best of luck to both teams as they take the field at Worcester State University on Saturday. Your communities are behind you every step of the way, and we will all be cheering you on.

Bring home the trophies, and most importantly, enjoy the moment and represent your schools with pride.

Day of Portugal flag raising in the City of Taunton yesterday is always one of the best days! One of the many great days we have in Taunton, embracing Portuguese heritage, culture, and traditions that remain a strong and cherished part of our city.

I’m pleased to share that Raynham, Taunton, and Wareham have been awarded FY26 Municipal Fiber Grants through the Community Compact Cabinet program to support critical technology and infrastructure improvements in our communities.

Raynham will receive $250,000 to secure its SCADA system on a closed-loop dark fiber network, helping strengthen the reliability and security of essential municipal operations.

Taunton has been awarded $114,000 to expand the city’s existing fiber optic infrastructure, improving connectivity and supporting future municipal technology needs.

Wareham will receive $250,000 to expand its existing fiber optic infrastructure, enhancing the town’s capacity to deliver reliable and efficient services.

These investments will help our communities modernize critical infrastructure, improve cybersecurity, and build stronger, more resilient municipal networks.

Today, the Senate passed S.3109, An Act relative to benefits for teachers, providing a one-time opportunity for certain eligible teachers to enroll in the Retirement Plus program.

This legislation allows teachers who were eligible for Retirement Plus before July 1, 2001, but did not enroll at that time, to elect into the program by June 30, 2027. Eligible participants will be able to secure these enhanced retirement benefits by making the required retroactive contributions and interest payments.

The bill also ensures that eligible teachers are properly notified of this opportunity so they can make informed decisions about their retirement planning.

Our teachers dedicate their careers to educating and supporting the next generation, and this legislation helps provide a fair opportunity for those who may have missed their original chance to participate in the program.
