To help folks create photos for our challenge, I decided to share some examples of pictures taken with different apertures.

I made these 3 photos using the same lens, but with different aperture settings. Changing your aperture (aka your F-number) can alter what’s called the “depth of field” or how soft or sharp the background feels.
Which version do you think looks best??

Snaps from a recent  scout trip to Iceland with

STUDENT SHOUTOUT: This summer, captured this lovely portrait during a photo walk in Haymarket. Instead of focusing on the market goods, she turned her lens to the sellers, beautifully showcasing their warmth in the stunning natural light.

Join us on Friday, September 13 at the Distillery Gallery for the opening reception of our fourth annual Student Showcase. This show includes work by nearly 40 students from our talented photography community not to mention work by a couple of our incredible instructors. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see local art, connect with others passionate about photography, and get to know what BPW is all about.

STUDENT SHOUTOUT: We really love this Nat Geo-esque shot Jim got while photographing wildlife along the Massachusetts coastline. This image successfully balances a simple composition and use of contrasts, such as movement and idleness, white amongst a crowd of black.
