🌸🥕 A Plant-Based, Low-Waste, Candy-Free Easter? Yes, please. 🐣💛
Looking for ways to celebrate the season without the sugar crash, animal products, or plastic waste? Here are a few of our favorite low-impact, plant-powered ideas to keep Easter sweet and sustainable:
🥕 Fill Reusables with Fun (Not Candy):
Use fabric pouches, jars, or reusable tins and stuff them with:
* Tiny thrifted treasures
* Handwritten notes or spring jokes
* Puzzle pieces for a group activity
* “Experience” coupons like “You pick the movie” or “Backyard picnic day”
🎨 Craft with a Purpose:
Skip the eggs—try dyeing fabric scraps or old tees with veggie-based dyes (red cabbage = magical blue 💙), make your own bunny ears, or upcycle jars into mini spring vases.
🌱 Grow Something Together:
Tuck seed packets or tiny garden tools into baskets and plant something beautiful together—flowers, herbs, or veggies to enjoy all season long.
🚶♀️ Make Memories, Not Waste:
Go on a nature walk scavenger hunt, host a springtime picnic with homemade snacks, or cozy up with a library book that celebrates new beginnings.
🍓 Wholesome Homemade Treats:
Keep it sweet and simple with fruit skewers, banana oat cookies, or date-coconut “nests.” All plant-based, all delicious—and compost-friendly, too.
💛 This Easter, let’s celebrate joyfully, mindfully, and in harmony with the planet.

In 2019, health care spending in the United States topped $3.8 trillion dollars — nearly 18% of the gross domestic product (GDP) — as projected by the CMS Office of the Actuary. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the agency had projected health spending would continue to grow at a rate of 5.3% a year, reaching nearly $6.2 trillion by 2028. If those increases were to continue unabated over the next 20 years, health spending could reach a staggering $11.8 trillion by 2040. Although the pandemic caused people to defer care throughout much of 2020, a rebound and then continuation of the trends beyond 2021 could drive health care spending to historic levels in the coming years.

There’s something so comforting about a hearty bowl of beans this time of year. Not only are they high in protein and fiber, but they’re such a filling dinner that can be made in big batches.
No-salt added canned beans are an easy go-to that don’t require any prep time! But if you have a little extra time, soaking dried beans overnight is a great option too. Beans in their dried form are often cheaper and can be bought in the bulk section of certain grocery stores. Store the beans in an airtight container until the day before you prepare them and soak them in water the night before you plan to cook them.
Here’s a quick tip: if a recipe calls for a 15oz can of beans, that’s equivalent to roughly ½ cup of dried beans, or 1½ cups cooked beans.
