Shalom Magazine
Shalom Magazine - Free quarterly Jewish publication. Published in Massachusetts since 2009 by journalist Shirley Nigri Farber
Shalom Magazine is a quarterly free publication that circulates in Massachusetts at stores, Jewish Community Centers, temples and schools. We cover events, news, exclusive articles, and many other community related issues. We offer free event listing up to 3 sentence to Jewish non-profit organizations.
As a family, we have recently completed watching House of David on Amazon, and I was struck by the way the show brought a Bible story with the visuals of Game of Thrones. While the show took some creative liberties including a lot of witch craft, we found it to be an enjoyable watch. My husband Scott and I have always been drawn to the story of King David, which holds great significance for us, as we met in the Old City of Jerusalem and chose to name our son David. Interestingly, my education in Jewish day school in Brazil only covered the Torah up to the death of Moses, and it was not until I attended Beth Rivkah school in NY that I studied the book of Samuel and the story of King David in depth. Scott have learned the stories on his own for years. This prior knowledge enhanced our family's viewing experience, as we were able to discuss and differentiate between the biblical account and the show's creative interpretations. Did you see the show? Let me know in the comments. I asked AI to compare what is in the Bible with the Amazon show.

Today Gov. Healey celebrated Jewish American Heritage Month, joined by Massachusetts Jewish community leaders, Treasurer Deborah Goldberg, Senate President Karen Spilka, and other administration officials. The event recognized the contributions of the Jewish community in Massachusetts. The Office of the Governor featured an art installation by Boston-based Jewish photographer Ilene Pearlman, whose collection shows the diversity of Jewish communities around the world.
During her remarks to acknowledge attendees in the room, Governor Healey said, “The Jewish community has always been there in, and for, our state; and we must always be there for you ... We will call out antisemitism wherever we see it, and we will stamp out antisemitism wherever it rears its ugly head.”

Coming home from the screening of October Shadows, a powerful documentary by Jonathan Silvers showing the far-reaching ramifications of the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israeli survivors and families who lost loved ones. After the screening we stayed for a Q&A with Shari Redstone, the producer and Hannie Ricardo, the mother of one of the victims. I will put the link to the film.
