My stupid story of making a painting twice:
I made a painting over the fall that was aimed to depict the difference between niceness and kindness. When the painting was finished, I displayed the piece at an art show. I was lucky enough that sell it, and the buyer wanted it shipped. Which was no problem, up until the painting was stolen at the show’s end.
It was frustrating realization. After contacting the buyer, they were ok with me redoing the painting and adding to it in any way I deemed fit. So, while probably unnecessary, I spent more time making the redo. I dove deeper exploring the concept of how nefarious nice people wearing a smiling mask can be.
Typically, niceness is a rather shallow superficial thing, a mask worn when something is wanted, and if said thing isn’t given then you get to see what’s really behind the mask.
Kindness is different. Kindness doesn’t want something from you. Kindness isn’t always instantly recognizable like niceness is, because kindness isn’t superficial. Anyways this painting is the redo. If you care enough, you can look through my previous post to see the painting that was stolen.

An important part of a book to me is the first sentence. If done right, it can lock me into the story and make me care about it. It's the beauty of language that flows in way that etches that sentence in your mind, and makes you feel like you have been transported to another world.
Anyone up for sharing their favorite opening lines of a book?
I'll leave two.
1. "The man in black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed." Dark Tower
2. "The sky above the port was the color of televison tuned to a dead channel." Neuromancer
