🚨 Hidden Leak Found in the Drain Line! 🚨

At first glance, this copper drain line didn’t look too bad… but appearances can be deceiving. 👀

In this short, you’ll see what happens when water is run through an old copper drain pipe buried in concrete. Years of wear and corrosion have left the pipe with extremely thin walls and multiple holes, allowing water to leak right through.

💧 Why this happens:
✅ Aging copper drain lines can corrode from the inside out.
✅ Thin pipe walls eventually develop pinholes and leaks.
✅ Hidden leaks beneath concrete can lead to water damage and costly repairs.

Unfortunately, this section of drain pipe has reached the end of its life and will need to be cut out and replaced.

🛠 Pro Tip:
Just because a pipe looks good from the outside doesn’t mean it’s sound on the inside. A small leak today can become a major problem tomorrow.

🚿 Is your shower dripping, hard to turn, or impossible to get the temperature just right? 🔧

Many times, the culprit is a worn-out cartridge.

In this video, we replaced a Moen Posi-Temp tub/shower valve cartridge and restored the valve to smooth operation. Using the proper Moen cartridge puller, we safely removed the old cartridge, cleaned and inspected the valve body, and installed a new cartridge with the supplied lubricant for a proper fit.

✔️ Screwdriver
✔️ Channel Lock Pliers
✔️ Cartridge Lubricant

One small detail that makes a big difference: after cleaning the valve body, we apply lubricant to both the cartridge and inside the valve chamber. This helps ensure smooth operation and can extend the life of the cartridge.

It’s often the little things that separate a quick fix from a professional repair. 💪

💧 New Frostproof Hose Faucet Installation 🔧

Here's a recent outdoor hose faucet replacement we completed using a quarter-turn frostproof hose bib for improved durability and freeze protection.

One thing that separates a professional installation from a quick repair is paying attention to the details. Before soldering the new hose faucet, we remove the stem assembly and handle to protect the internal seals and components from heat damage. Once the soldering is complete and the faucet has cooled, everything is reassembled and tested.

Another detail you may notice is that we hard-pipe our hose faucets directly to the copper water line whenever possible. We do not install a threaded female adapter between the pipe and faucet because it creates an additional connection point that can become a future leak source. Fewer fittings mean fewer potential problems down the road.

New 40 Gallon Water Heater Installation 🔥

Here’s a clean and straightforward water heater replacement we completed using a new Richmond 40 gallon water heater along with all new code-compliant connections. 💧🔧

For this install we used:
✔️ Two new 3/4” dielectric unions
✔️ 3/4” copper piping
✔️ 1/2” black iron gas pipe
✔️ Gas-rated thread sealant paste
✔️ Teflon tape + paste on the dielectric unions

We also had to re-pipe the gas supply to properly line up with the new heater installation.

One important detail many people overlook: dielectric unions help prevent corrosion between dissimilar metals and are required for proper installation in many areas, including Illinois.

This one was a relatively easy swap thanks to the open workspace… but they definitely aren’t all this nice 😅
