The start up of the 20/21 school year is proving to be a challenge for everyone in one way or another. Regardless of what country you’re in or if you’re affiliated with a public or private school, you will still experience some kind of shift in what we once called “traditional” education. Whether you’re teaching full-time, as a substitute, a casual teacher, part-time or are responsible for getting kids to and from school as a bus driver, the truth is, there is nothing “traditional” or normal about the return of this school year. Depending on your situation, your journey will be your own but you'll share in the overall experience of trying to navigate these new uncharted waters.

One substitute teacher from Canada sent us a DM with their specific concerns. They gave permission to share but asked to remain anonymous to avoid any risk to their job and livelihood. They do not feel their story is unique, and that in general, substitute teachers are being overlooked. The questions they raise are valid, and something everyone should be talking about. There should be more of a spotlight on the precarious work done by those who will be keeping the school systems afloat this school year. Read the questions this substitute teacher raised to the teacher’s union on our website. Link is in our BIO.

Are you a substitute teacher this year? What is it like where you are from? Are there measures in place to ensure you have the proper training? Do you feel your district has your best interests in mind? Send, comment below, stay anonymous and send us a DM, or visit our website to post your story and experience across all of our platforms via our “Submit your Story” page!
