Earth currently has massive deserts stretching all the way from Africa across the Middle East to China. These expanding deserts could be regenerated, grown back into forests while providing areas for sustainable farming. Water and rain would then come back naturally, as the land cools down.

Re-greening the earth's deserts would reverse species extinctions, replenish drinking water supplies and provide much needed food in these regions, where famines (and wars) will become more and more common if nothing is done.

Once desertification is reversed and forests start to regenerate on their own the trees would also absorb excess carbon from the air and stabilise (or reverse) global warming. We have not heard of any other solutions as potentially effective for taking massive amounts of carbon out of the air...

The only question is, where's the plan (and collective will) for doing this?
