Snack in a Backpack is a nonprofit organization founded in April of 2009 to help feed food-insecure children
The mission of the Snack in a Backpack program is to reduce the burden of childhood hunger in Fannin County by providing food insecure families a weekend and school vacation food assistance program. Volunteers pack over 400 bags with food and deliver them to the schools each week. Children who receive their meals at school and have little or nothing to eat on the weekends and during school vacations receive bags of nutritious, non-perishable food such as cereal, milk, juice, fruit, granola bars, soup and beef stew. The cost to Snack in a Backpack to prepare these bags is $3.00 per bag. We meet these costs through donations and through our partnership with Feeding America and are able to purchase the majority of our food through our affiliation with the Chattahoochee Food Bank. Snack also raises money through grants and fundraising efforts.

Well…that was fun!
Snack in a Backpack was Grand Marshall for this year’s Fannin High School Homecoming Parade…
Thank you for this special honor.
Everyone was great…the floats, the band and homecoming court.

Snack in a Backpack has been showing up for children and families in our community since 2009. Now, we’d love to hear from the people we’ve had the privilege of serving... if you are willing! ❤️
We’re currently pursuing grants to help us continue this work, and one of the most powerful ways to demonstrate our impact is to hear directly from the families and children who we have lovingly served.
Did your family receive Snack in a Backpack? Maybe those bags meant one less worry at the end of the month. Maybe they helped stretch the groceries a little farther. Or maybe, as a child, you simply knew there would be something waiting in your backpack to take home.
Whatever your experience, we’d love to hear from you!

📦 Back to our regularly scheduled packing! 📦
It feels good to be back in our weekly rhythm. We’re also back to receiving our weekly donation from our friends at Mercier Orchards, along with a special donation from Feed Fannin this week: a pallet of chicken pouches and tangerines. Thank you so much to our partners! 🍎🍊
We will need the community's help to fund food purchases for the entire 2026–2027 school year. Every donation helps make sure there's food to pack and bags to deliver!
