Breathe. Move. Get Stronger!

What is the purpose of this exercise?

Chest expansion is a standing or kneeling exercise at the Tower. It prepares us for the same exercise on the reformer (get ready for the moving carriage while you pull the straps back!). When you pull the bar towards you, you will feel the springs. They will pull you forward and make you bend your arms, because you will be tempted to use your biceps💪

The truth lies elsewhere: you need both biceps and triceps in order to reach the arms long as you pull the rollback bar towards you while you stay tall (i.e., actively lengthen your spine)

You are resisting the springs, which offer variable resistance. You are using your intrinsic postural muscles to stay tall as the springs pull you forward.

Stand your ground. Pilates is great stuff. It complements almost everything you do. I never said just do Pilates (at the exclusion of all else).

I always say, "Just do Pilates (in addition to everything else)"

Pilates that makes sense. It helps you do everything else longer. A great reset and complement. Great as a standalone form of fitness, maintenance and wellness. Remember, people who do Pilates lived longer than their peers who only did yoga or those that didn't do either yoga or Pilates

We didn't do much, just some classical Pilates, but admittedly it was a bit unhinged

How can the same workout feel slow and deliberate one day, and wild and crazy the next?

Hint: it's in the pacing, the sequencing, the focus, the energy in the room. So, all the stuff I can't quite convey through the 'Gram.

"It doesn't seem like much, but a day later, I can feel it in my abs"

✨Pilates is a great movement method —and workout— for those who are looking to reduce inflammation and want to feel connected and strong.

💪Not bad for an "easy" workout!

How does Pilates work your core in such a gentle way? By using a different, deeper activation that is safe for your lower back. That's why even if it feels like you aren't doing much, you will feel —and see— changes in how you stand and how you carry yourself.

💥Now that you are ready to book your session, reach out to me and I will get you in the program that best suits your needs 🤝

There are so many Pilates exercises called STRETCH of some sort: single leg stretch, double leg stretch, single straight leg stretch, double straight leg stretch, short spine stretch, knee stretches....and there are exercises that are all about the stretch, but the name says something else, like teaser, mermaid, tree, stomach massage

Am I a bit obsessed with the Ab Series? If you have done the series 3x in a row with me, then you might think so. But you can't say we did them the same way each time! That would be boring!

Nope, I used the cold to boiling water method: start simple, turn up the heat a little bit, then REALLY turn it up, especially when you are at the point of no return. The only solution is to finish the AB series.... again 😊

Darn, now you know better. And if you do, then you will join me again for my super fun an series with variations and awful counting 😂

Are you in? Drop me a 👊in the comments. Also:
👊🔥🥵if you low-key hated it and
🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏 if the effort paid off the next day 💃

You may remember Danielle. We featured her in a Client Appreciation post a while back. Well, she started her teacher training program this weekend and she's hit the ground running!

Danielle has always been committed to excellence in everything she does. She is comfortable stepping outside the box to find ways to improve her game, whether it's her studies, her job, tennis, or Pilates. Danielle is energetic and has a great laugh!

Danielle is a good listener and a strong mover. She knows what it's like to be strong and, at the same time, to overcome injury. During the day, she works in the arts, and she stays active whenever she's not working. She's an all-around powerhouse!

Be sure to get in her schedule before it fills up!
