We couldn’t believe our eyes... We witnessed an extremely rare biological occurrence here in the forest gardens today. A half black, half yellow eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly on our patch of Virginia bluebells. We just learned this is known as a Bilateral Gynandromorph Eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly = half male and half female, split down the middle. This genetic variant is extremely rare and happens only once in a million!

How lucky we are to witness this unique and beautiful butterfly, even if just for a fleeting moment. Thank you nature for never ceasing to amaze us! 🦋

For 2026 we’re committing to eating fermented, live cultured foods at least once a day! You in?!
Did you know even just 2 tablespoons of raw kimchi or sauerkraut a day can help provide beneficial probiotics, aid digestion, and support your immune system. It’s pretty incredible & a brilliant way to support and nurture your gut health.

All our ferments are made using locally grown (with organic methods) cabbages & vegetables, naturally fermented and kept raw to preserve the amazing probiotics!

👍Pro-tip: Don’t throw away the leftover brine, use it in salad dressings, add it to sauces, mix with rice or even take a daily brine shot! Let us know your favorite way to enjoy fermented foods.

Our local kimchi & sauerkrauts available now:
• Bloomington Farm Stop Collective
• Bloomingfoods (kimchi only)

Wow, what a year it has been!
It’s wild to think back and reflect on our growing season this year. The gardens teach us so much yet no year is ever the same.

With the ever-changing climate we witness firsthand as land stewards, we sure are grateful to have implemented climate-resilient farming practices that mitigate the effects of unpredictable weather events like heavy rainfall and late summer droughts. And through it all, the gardens continue to preservere and provide plentifully again this year.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to all who continue to support our delicious endeavours and our vision for earth-centered, small-scale farming. You all make this possible! We’re so fortunate to have an awesome community who value real, locally grown food here.

For now, we will take a deep winter’s rest and before you know it we’ll be back at the farmers’ market next Spring! Happy New Year to you and here’s to many more fruitful years head. 🤝

You can always find our goods:
• Bloomington Farm Stop Collective
• Bloomingfoods East and West

Our INDIANA FIG JAM.. ready for you to try with your favorite cheeses, swirled into yoghurt or oats, slathered on top of ice cream or just straight out of the jar. (It’s that delicious.)

Our figs were abundant this year, thriving in the late summer heat and dry weather here in our summer gardens. We harvested these juicy morsels most days over the span of 6 weeks, and now here they are transformed into a delightful, vibrant pink jam. Figgy jammy goodness in a jar.

Extremely limited edition! Find it at our last market of the year THIS WEEKEND at Brown County Christkindl Market! 🎄
Sat 10am - 6pm
Sun 10am - 4pm
located downtown Nashville IN, by the coachlight square.

And just like that our growing season this year is over! Today as our outdoor garden beds are covered in a blanket of snow, we want to share our appreciation to our small but mighty farm team. 💪

Working outside in the elements, especially during the hot & humid days, can be tough & challenging. But having a great team & good people on board makes all the work worthwhile, and definitely a lot more fun. Every work day is a great reminder that healthy soil, delicious food, and good people go hand in hand. Grateful to Adrienne for keeping silly with us on the farm & kitchen.. and of course for being our #1 mulch mover! 🙌

While our growing season is over, the creation of more ferments, jams & sauces continue. Keep posted on our holiday market updates & where to find us through the winter!

(Swipe to see farmers on skates! B&R crew hits up & for our end-of-growing-season-appreciation day 🤝)
