After my cat brought home puppies from who knows where, a policeman knocked on the door. His words made my heart stopā¦
That evening began quietly. I was folding laundry when suddenly Liliās voice rang out from the living room:
ā Mom! She has something in her mouth again!
ā Who? ā I froze mid-step.
ā Marsa! A puppy! Another one!
I ran to the window and couldnāt believe my eyes: my tabby cat was walking across the yard, carrying a tiny black bundle in her teeth. In the corner of the room, in a woven basket, already lay four just like it ā tiny, their eyes tightly shut, with warm, velvety sides.
Marsa carefully placed the new one next to them, gently licked it, and curled herself around them as if protecting them from the whole world.
I couldnāt understand: where was she finding these puppies? And why was she bringing them one by one?
During the day, there was a loud knock at the door ā so loud that the glass in the frame rattled.
I froze, and Lili clung to my hand as if sensing something bad.
I opened the door ā there stood a policeman and Mrs. Miller, our neighbor, known for noticing everything and everyone. Her face was darker than a storm cloud.
ā Do you have a cat? ā the officer asked without wasting time on greetings.
ā Yes⦠ā I nodded cautiously. ā What happened?
He held my gaze for a long moment, studying me, then quietly said:
ā In that case⦠youād better sit down.
I didnāt yet know what I was about to hear, but a cold shiver ran down my spine, and my heart skipped a beat. Read more in Comment or Most relevant -> All Comments

I found something strange in a bag of flour: I decided to open the cellophane and see what was inside⦠and when it became clear what it was, I was completely shocked š²š±
I just wanted to bake bread. The most ordinary, homemade one, as usual. I opened a new packageāunbranded, cheap, bought it at the market from some man who assured me that it was āflour like grandmaās in the village.ā
I poured some into a bowl, ran my hand through itāand suddenly my fingers hit something hard. Not a lump, not a pebble. Something long, dense, ŃŃŠ¶Š¾Šµ.
My heart gave an unpleasant jolt. I carefully began to sift through the flour, and from the white dust appeared a bundle wrapped in thin cellophane, covered in flour, as if it had been deliberately hidden. It was elongated, uneven, with some strange bends.
The most unpleasant thoughts immediately came to mind. Smuggling. Illegal substances. Someone uses such packages to transport something forbidden, and I just took the first one I saw.
My hands became cold, my chest tightened. For a second I even thoughtāthrow everything away and forget it, as if nothing had happened.
But to throw it away would mean leaving it for someone else. What if there really is something dangerous inside?
I carefully took the bundle, placed it on paper towels like evidence, and stared at it for a long time, not daring to touch it. It felt like if I opened it, there would be no going back.
My fingers trembled as I began to unwrap the cellophane. First a dark edge appeared, then a dense surface covered with a white coating of flour. I froze, staring, trying to understand the shape.
And only after a few seconds did it dawn on me what it was...Read more in Comment or Most relevant -> All Comments
