A friendly reminder to anyone that is still operating one of these vehicles in our area. Enforcement of this new law went into affect July 1st.

On July 1st, operating a "squatted" truck on Georgia roadways became illegal. OCGA 40-8-6 and 40-8-6.1 highlight that any vehicle weighing between 4000 lbs and not more than 7500 lbs is restricted from elevating or lowering the frame height more than four inches above or below the frame of the rear of the vehicle. It also establishes that a vehicle lift can be no more than six inches above or below the manufacturer's recommendation. This update covers most passenger cars and trucks that travel our roads.

We want to extend a huge thank you to Shrimp Snob and our local community! We aren't able to help kids with our "Shop With A Cop" program without help from people like him and this community as a whole!

Every dollar counts! Last year we were able to take 164 kids, and help their families in different ways because of fundraising just like this!!

We love our community!!

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone that supported the 3rd annual Shrimp Snob/Shop with a Cop program yesterday in Blairsville. It’s really humbling knowing that we did our part in making Christmas a little better for some of local children. We were able to donate a check for $1265.00 to The Shop with a Cop program.
Thank you to all of our wonderful customers and volunteers.

***Scam Alert***

Today we were made aware of calls being made using FaceTime and it being an Artificial Intelligence "deepfake" that looked like the person calling you. They are spoofing your friends number or a local business number, and then the FaceTime will look like the person they claim to be. If you have a friend or someone you associate with in business make a call to you asking for money, it may not be a real person, don't send money to them. Please use caution if something seems fishy, because it probably is.

Always try to make contact in person with somebody to confirm they are really needing help.

At the request of our law enforcement partners in Shelby County, Texas, we are again asking for our public's assistance in locating the below pictured individual. We have attached the Shelby County Sheriff's Office Facebook post below. He is believed to be driving the below pictured vehicle that was seen in Blairsville earlier this evening traveling eastbound on Hwy 515 W toward downtown Blairsville. He might be traveling with a white female with dark hair. He is also believed to have shaved his hair into more of a buzz cut. If you believe that you know where Therrin or this truck is located, please DO NOT APPROACH. Call 911 immediately.

Rubber Duck Derby tickets to benefit Blairsville Police Department's Shop with a Cop are now on sale!

The Rubber Duck Derby is coming back to Blairsville on September 2, 2023 on Butternut Creek next to the Union County Farmer's Market. Ducks can be adopted for $10 each. Each duck has a number on the bottom that will be provided to you when you adopt your duck. The first three ducks to cross the finish line will win $500, $250, and $100 respectively. There are dozens of other prizes that will be given away after the first three ducks have won. Also, there is a "lame duck" prize, which is a gas grill donated by The Home Depot of Blairsville, which will be awarded to the final duck that crosses the finish line.

If you would like to adopt a duck, you can speak with any Blairsville Police Officer, come by the Police Department at 96 Blue Ridge St, or call the after-hours non-emergency number at (706) 439-6038.

Remember, ALL (not some, not most) proceeds will benefit the Police Department's Shop with a Cop program to help children in need during Christmas. Last year, we were able to take 150 children shopping for Christmas because of the generosity of our community. We are extremely grateful for that and we hope to take just as many children (if not more) this year!

Happy 4th of July to all! As this holiday approaches, the most common question we get is in regards to fireworks during the holidays. We want everyone to enjoy their holiday weekend and be safe, but please also be courteous to your neighbors when enjoying your fireworks displays.

This is the law concerning fireworks in Georgia. Hopefully, it clears up any confusion. The Blairsville Police Dept. wishes you and your family a Happy and Safe 4th of July weekend!!!

OCGA 25-10-2
Prohibited Fireworks Activities
Georgia's fireworks laws. Please be courteous to your neighbors!

• On July 3rd and July 4th fireworks may be used until midnight (regardless of local ordinance)

• Fireworks may not be used at a park, within 100 yards of a nursing home, hospital, electric plant, water plant, or gas station.
