Members of UCFD Station 3 conducted training tonight on SCBA’s and disoriented firefighter. One of the most valuable items a firefighter uses during a fire is their SCBA, that is Self Contained Breathing Apparatus. The SCBA provides a firefighter with clean air while operating in hazardous environments that can be extremely harmful.
After refreshing on SCBA’s, we performed a drill called disoriented firefighter. No firefighter should find themselves in a position to be lost alone in a hostile environment, but the nature of interior operations in low/zero visibility requires us to plan and train for the worst situations. In this simple drill, the firefighter will simulate that they have become separated from crew members and must identify the quickest way out of the area. One of the best ways is to find a hose and follow it back to the door. The connections on a fire hose are designed so , even with gloves on, a firefighter can feel the connections and determine which way to go.

Greetings,
First and foremost, we would like to thank the residents and property owners of Stations 3, 10 and 12 coverage area, for your continued support. We couldn’t provide the high level of response without your financial assistance. As our area continues to grow by population, so does the need for updating our rescue equipment to respond properly and efficiently and assist our citizens during their time of need. Stations 3, 10, and 12 are completely operated by the donations of our community.
Even through the pandemic of 2020, the volunteer member firefighters and EMT’s were busy training and responding to an increased call volume which included fires, rescues, and medical calls. With your donations we were able to:
• Make the final loan payment on our Rescue truck
• Upgrade and outfit your fire engine at our Station 10
• Install an electric rollup door at Station 10 for quicker responses
• Purchase additional AED’s for responding to medical calls
• Purchase needed structural fire/rescue personal safety gear
• Purchase equipment for Search and Rescue operations
2021 is shaping up to be an even busier year both in call volume and goals which include:
• Purchase additional AED’s for our members responding to medical calls
• Continued loan payments on Engine 10
• Purchase additional necessary equipment for our fire/rescue apparatus
• Purchase structure fire/rescue personal safety gear as existing become outdated
• Add safety equipment to our fire/rescue apparatus

In order to accomplish this, please know that your continued donations are more important than you can imagine. With your continued support, we can work to meet these goals. Checks may be sent to Union County Volunteer Fire Station 3 at P.O. Box 1517, Blairsville, Ga., 30514. Your donations may be tax deductible and a receipt can be provided upon request.
We are pleased to announce that we have a PAYPAL account to make your donations more convenient. Please refer to the QR code below or go to our PAYPAL page @ [email protected]

Thank you from your Fire Stations 3, 10 and 12 volunteer members. We truly strive to put action behind our moto, “Our Family Protecting Your Family”.

Please check on our page: Union County Fire Station 3 or in North Georgia News for details on our Annual Fire Station Open House. Once we are given the all clear concerning the COVID-19 we will publicize this event’s date. The Open House will be held at Station 3, located at 14 Waldroup Road. Please come by and meet your volunteers and see what your donations have allowed us to accomplish while you enjoy some food, fun, and fellowship

Station 3 was excited to recently partner with Homestead Hospice of Blairsville and the City of Blairsville police department to help support Sonshine Manor Personal Care Home of Blairsville with their “parade of families” for residents who have not been able to see family members due to COVID19 restrictions. What an awesome tribute to the elders of our community!

Station 3 members are grateful to volunteer and work in a county with such leadership, resources, and funding that provides an in-county training facility and burn building to make basic and advanced training more accessible and hands on. Not all counties and departments have that capability. Thank you, Union County for making it possible, and for your investment in your firefighters!
