Alabama lawmakers pass IVF immunity legislation The bill is intended to restart IVF treatments by shielding patients and providers from civil and criminal charges, but does not change the state Supreme Court's ruling that embryos are children.
It is with such sadness that I tell you we have lost two of the most impactful lawyers in the Alabama State Bar.
Judge Anne Durward was, at the time of her death, the President of the AAML Foundation, the charitable arm of the national organization. A splendid attorney in private practice, she was chosen by the Governor to serve as a Circuit Judge, then chosen by the electorate to do the same. Her knowledge of the law, her empathy and dry wit served all of us and our clients well when she was on the bench. Her joie de vivre and her travels with John garnered her true friends from all over the world.
Steve Arnold was one of the earliest members of the Alabama Chapter of AAML, a past President, and also a staunch supporter of the AAML Foundation. A brilliant trial attorney, he also found time to teach at the AAML Institute for Training New Lawyers for 20 years. A fierce advocate and a true leader, he practiced with integrity and strength for more than 40 years.
Both of them stars in their own way, we were all lucky to have their lights shine on us. We will miss them.
