Avondale Regional Library is part of the Birmingham Alabama Public Library system In 2005, the library closed again for renovations and refurbishing.

At the turn of the 20th century, Andrew Carnegie, the industrialist and philanthropist, donated $10,000 to the city of Avondale to build a library. The beautiful building lasted 50 years, at which time the City of Birmingham and the library board recognized the need for a new building. The new library was built in 1961 complete with air-conditioning and increased space. In 1982, the city used bond

Calling all artists – tell your story with our Tiny Art Show! Create your own painting with acrylic paints and a 3x3 canvas that we provide. All ages are welcome. Kits are available at the circulation desk beginning June 4, and final submissions are due by June 30. The resulting exhibit will be displayed in the library for the rest of the summer and featured on our page. We can’t wait to see what you create!

What happens when a curious kid gets lost in the jungle? A whole lot of fun! This summer, Birmingham Children’s Theatre is bringing The Jungle Book to life with Birmingham Public Libraries — for free!

Your family will be on the edge of your seats as Mowgli befriends Baloo the Bear and Bagheera the panther, outwits a gang of sneaky monkeys, and comes face-to-face with the fierce tiger, Shere Khan, in this fast-paced retelling of the classic Rudyard Kipling tales. It's a perfect outing for young adventurers — no tickets, no fuss, just great live theatre at your neighborhood library this June and July.
