Waldo’s Chicken & B**r to open at Valley Post on Sept. 29

Waldo’s Chicken & B**r announced today that the restaurant’s grand opening at Valley Post will be Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The restaurant features scratch-made Southern food, cold drinks, funky chicken artwork, televised sports, music and a full bar.

Operating partner Casey Atherton, who oversees Waldo’s locations throughout Central Alabama, said he’s excited to add Waldo’s Southern charm to the growing Chelsea and Highway 280 corridor.

We want to make this as big a deal as possible and build as much excitement and anticipation as possible,” Atherton said.

“We want to make it an exciting thing for Chelsea and the surrounding area. The location is about more than opening another restaurant—it’s about becoming part of the community for the long haul.”

Guests will be able to enjoy the restaurant’s screened-in patio, outdoor seating and greenspace, with plans for plenty of televisions throughout the restaurant. A large movie screen in the greenspace will provide an especially big setting for showing sporting events and more.

“We want to be that community hub,” Atherton said. “It’s an affordable, real, honest, good Southern home-cooking meal for families.”

Families can enjoy a meal that feels homemade without the price tag often associated with eating out. Tender box combinations include fries, slaw, toast and a drink for $9.99, the family-sized “Feed the Flock” meal is designed to feed a group for about $40. On Thursday’s, kids meals are free with
each adult meal purchased.

The Chelsea location will be Waldo’s fourth Central Alabama restaurant. The first opened in Birmingham in 2022, followed by locations in Vestavia and Pelham in 2025.

Frank Egan will serve as operating partner at the Chelsea location. He has been with Waldo’s since the day the original location opened. Both Atherton and Egan are Chelsea residents, making the new location particularly personal.

Atherton said the goal is simple: make Waldo’s a place Chelsea can claim as its own.

“We want to be a foundational piece of what’s building here in the Chelsea area.”

SAW’s BBQ will be the next addition at Valley Post with plans to open this fall.
