Tutor Nation

If your student has a big test coming up, don't wait until the night before to start prepping.

Try 20 to 30 minutes of focused studying a few days out. Have them answer a few questions without notes, then go back over anything they missed or couldn't explain.

That gives them a clearer picture of what actually needs more attention.

Save this for the next big test.

Does your student plan to take the ACT?

Knowing what to expect on test day can make a real difference. Pacing, question strategy, and how to work through the exam with a plan, these are skills students can build before they ever sit down for the real thing.

That's exactly what our ACT Bootcamp is designed to help with.

Give your student the opportunity to walk into test day feeling prepared and confident. Register them for our October 10 Bootcamp at www.tutor-nation.com.

Tutor Nation is proud to announce our new partnership with the YMCA of Greater Birmingham to provide after-school academic support for students in grades 5–8 at the Roebuck and Downtown Birmingham locations! 📚

Students will have access to homework support and academic enrichment in math, reading/ELA and problem-solving, along with opportunities to explore leadership and entrepreneurship.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to reach more students where they are and provide the support and encouragement they need to strengthen their skills, build confidence and grow.

October is a good time for a quick check-in.

Take 10 minutes with your student and go over three things:

✅ Workload: Are they getting assignments done on time?
✅ Grades: Are there any recent drops or missing assignments?
✅ Challenges: What subject or skill feels hardest right now?

Notice a pattern worth addressing? Better to start the conversation now than wait until the semester wraps up.

If your student could use extra support, Tutor Nation is here. Visit www.tutor-nation.com to learn more.

STUDY TIPS: Reading for Understanding

Rereading notes can feel like studying, but simply reading the same information again doesn’t always help students retain it.

Instead, encourage your student to make rereading more active:

🔎 Read a section, then look away.
💭 Ask them to explain the main idea from memory.
📓 Have them write down the key details they remember.
✔️ Then, have them look back and see what they missed.

Helping your student practice recalling information can make study time more purposeful and effective.

Parents, here’s a quick checklist to use when reviewing your student’s progress report. 📋

As you review your child’s progress report, look beyond the overall grade and pay attention to:

✔️ A noticeable drop in a subject they usually do well in
✔️ Missing or incomplete assignments
✔️ Consistently low quiz or test grades
✔️ Teacher comments about areas where your student is struggling

A progress report gives you an opportunity to catch these concerns early and make a plan before they become bigger challenges.

If you’re seeing a pattern, we’re here to help. Visit www.tutor-nation.com to learn how.
