The Heights Community Development Task Force. Make a Difference in Your Neighborhood and Your City! What is the Heights Community Development Task Force? The Heights Community Development Task Force is a community-run organization that was cr

eated by residents of the Heights to give people in our neighborhood a chance to make a difference where we live. The purpose of the Heights Community Development Task Force is to improve the quality of life and to promote community spirit through the improvement of the Heights area. It is to improve the planning of new developments, the upgrading of housing and streets and the development of public infrastructure and facilities. Our group regularly participates in such decisions as distribution of federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, proposed zone changes, City code violations, and anything else that has the potential to affect the neighborhood we call home. Why Should I Attend A Task Force Meeting? Everyone who lives in the Heights, or has a business or service organization in our community has their own ideas on how to change the Heights for the better. Our neighborhood meetings are where those ideas can be voiced and begin to become reality. This is where you, with the help of your neighbors, will make the Heights a better place to live and work. The more people from our area who participate in these meetings, the more ideas will be presented and solutions suggested. Heights Community Development Task Force

Any topic of interest to the neighborhood is open for discussion. Some topics that come up often include:

• Crime and Vandalism
• Improvement of Heights neighborhoods
o foot bridges for school children
o Safe Routes to School
• Implementation of the Neighborhood Plan
• Housing Quality and Concerns
o modifications for Cherry Creek
o multi-family units north of Walmart
• City Code Enforcement Issues
• Property Care and Proper Stewardship
• Future of the Heights and Its People
• Traffic Concerns
o “Inner Belt Loop”
o Intersection of Wicks and Bench

Billings Safe Routes to School - Medicine Crow Middle School

The City of Billings and the Billings Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) are studying ways to improve safety for students walking and biking near Medicine Crow Middle School.

What's Being Considered:

o Safer crossings and intersections
o Slower traffic in school zones
o Improved sidewalks and bike routes
o Better lighting and visibility
