This is the unplanned impact of a spent SpaceX Falcon 9 upper stage (cataloged as 2025-010D, ~4,000–4,900 kg / roughly the size of a five-story building section). It comes from the January 15, 2025 launch that delivered lunar landers (including Firefly’s Blue Ghost-1). It’s expected to hit near Einstein crater on the Moon’s near side (about 19.5°N, 93.6°W), close to the limb as seen from Earth, at ~5,400 mph (2.43 km/s). The prediction is refined to within a few seconds and a few kilometers based on ongoing tracking.

Public Service Announcement Please Read = LG monitors (particularly certain UltraGear models) have been found to trigger the silent, automatic installation of software on Windows PCs when connected, without any user prompt or consent. This occurs through Windows’ built-in device metadata / peripheral identification system (tied to Windows Update and the Microsoft catalog), which matches the monitor’s hardware ID and downloads associated packages.

How it works -> When the monitor is plugged in, Windows detects it and automatically fetches LG extension/driver components, followed shortly by the LG Monitor App Installer (appearing as something like 9PM9N6F47JB8-LGElectronics.LGMonitorApp).
No confirmation dialog is shown; the process is part of normal device identification and software association in the Microsoft-maintained catalog. The app can embed itself in startup, is difficult to fully remove via normal means (e.g., Microsoft Store), and has broad permissions including access to system resources, files, registry, peripherals, internet, and location data.

The problematic payload -> Once running, it frequently displays advertising (notably McAfee trial/subscription promotions on most boots, or occasionally LG’s own utilities). This has led many to describe it as adware (and some discussions label related behavior as malware-like or spyware due to the silent install, persistence, and permissions).

Reports from sources including Gamers Nexus, TechSpot, Hardware Busters, heise, and others documented this on models such as the LG UltraGear 34GX900A-B and others; it has also been noted with some Alienware/Dell monitors in related coverage.

Aftermath -> LG faced significant backlash over the lack of consent and ad-pushing. Microsoft intervened, and LG agreed to stop the automatic adware installation (McAfee content was reportedly stripped), though concerns about the underlying silent-install mechanism, permissions, and privacy persisted in reporting. Users have been advised to disable the app via Startup settings as a partial mitigation if present.

In short, the core issue is abuse of a legitimate Windows auto-install feature for peripherals to push an unwanted, ad-serving app with elevated access and no user opt-in.
