We are a grassroots, community-based group of like-minded neighbors and friends who want to help those living on the streets of our city. Consider The Homeless!
is recognized as a tax-exempt public charity under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue We try to keep well stocked with basic supplies to offer our sisters and brothers on the streets, such as blankets, warm clothes, coats and jackets, boots/shoes, socks and clean underwear. We have no agenda nor affiliations other than to serve Berkeley’s homeless with dignity and respect. Unlike most oth
er services for the homeless we do not expect them to come to us. We deliver dinner and supplies to whomever needs them by driving slowly around downtown and calling out to those huddled in doorways, on sidewalks and in parks – “Sir/Ma’am, would you like some hot homemade soup?”
Our vision for the future includes:
• A cadre of loyal and passionate volunteers to share the love
• The skill and know how to offer one-to-one advocacy to those who request it and accompany them through the bureaucratic maze that stands between a street person and a permanent and safe place to sleep at night when and if they request that assistance
We see Consider The Homeless to be a template for others to duplicate a different way of working with the homeless on the streets We do n ot expect them to come to us, we visit them in their space.
