Maracatu Pacífico
Dedicated to studying and performing the music of Maracatu de Baque Virado of Pernambuco, Brazil.
Maracatu Pacifico is a percussion group dedicated to studying and performing the rhythms and songs of Maracatu de Baque Virado of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil. We play both traditional maracatu Nação (our main influence is Estrela Brilhante do Recife) and the Bate Livre style of Maracatu Badia of Olinda. Our rehearsals are by invitation only, but everyone is always welcome to come and listen!
We had a lot of fun playing at Oakland Art Murmur on this beautiful day! Thank you to East Bay Open Studios for the invitation and organization!

Maracatu Pacifico is pleased to present…. Our new Estandarte!
Many years ago our gonguezeira/agbezeira/costume maker Cindy Lou Pearson made an estandarte for another group, which I modified for Pacifico. It served us well for many years! But when she gave me a roll of this dense blue fabric she found I knew I had to make a new estandarte with it. So many decisions to make when starting from scratch! I’m happy with the result. May it represent Maracatu Pacifico for many years to come!
Played a fun set off-site Gilman District Street Fair
Sharing as part of the celebration of International Day at Alvarado Elementary School in San Francisco. Grateful for the invite and a super fun time!
Rehearsal ended in this satisfying note, tu-maracatu!
