Founded in 2015 by a team of visionary undergraduates, Extended Reality @ Berkeley grew to become the largest XR student organization in the world.
Extended Reality @ Berkeley is a registered student organization at Cal for people interested in experiencing or developing virtual and augmented reality technology and applications. Our community consists of more than 50 members and 600 alumni, brought together by a common passion to free our experience from the boundaries of perception. As part of our efforts, we train new engineers in all aspects of Virtual and Augmented Reality, raise awareness about our technology’s potential for humanity, and advance the field through state-of-art research and development initiatives.

Happy start of semester! Applications for both the club AND the DeCal are now open!
Extended Reality at Berkeley is UC Berkeley's organization for virtual reality and augmented reality, offering students the chance to design their own universe. We cultivate creativity and allow members to immerse themselves in worlds that they create with project teams, ranging from simple variations of our existing reality to entirely new, exotic places. Whether you have a background in computer science, 3D modeling, sound design, or UI/UX design, or just general interest in the field, Extended Reality has a place for you! We also have VR esports!

Everyone who applies is automatically accepted as a general member! We are introducing a new program for general members this semester! We are holding a project mixer for all general members to pitch their ideas and team up with others to form project groups. These project groups will be mentored by a senior member in XR@B.

Applications for the Extended Reality DeCal are now open as well!
Interested in Virtual/Augmented Reality? Want to learn Unity? Looking for some extra units?
Similar to how mobile devices revolutionized the way we interact with our electronic devices, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality represent another exciting paradigm shift in human computer interaction. XR stands for Extended Reality, which is the realm that encompasses both Virtual and Augmented Reality.
This semester, this course will teach students to use Unity and VR headmounted displays to construct their own VR applications. Students will get exposure to different kinds of VR apps and work in teams to build their own from scratch. After completion of the course, we welcome interested students to join an existing project team with XR@Berkeley or pitch their own project.
This 3-unit course will be held on Monday’s and Thursday’s 5:00 - 7:00 PM PST in-person at the Cal Esports Community Center. (Only need to attend one of the sections - either Monday OR Thursday)
