The Monkey House
The Monkey House is a Berkeley listening room in the spirit of old Vaudeville. 1638 University Ave. We also rent the space for parties and events.
We feature acoustic music, comedy, storytelling, magic, improv, kids' events and more.

Hey, didn't I say that a new candidate, rather than being a disaster, would bring an EXPLOSION of needed energy? Saturday night we have another fundraiser here and, rather than just sending a check, you can come over and celebrate your new vitality. You'll get to see a really fun (and FUNNY) show and write a check to FLIP THE VOTE or ACT BLUE. Thanks!

What a difference a week makes, huh? You can stay home and donate while you stare dully into your cereal bowl OR... you can come to the Monkey House, hear some highly entertaining (and FUNNY) performers and donate HERE. We're already ahead of our goal for the four monthly benefits we're holding leading up to November 5. Please join us! (ALSO STILL SOME SLOTS FOR OUR FUN OPEN MIC THURSDAY NIGHT. [email protected])

Just learned this eerie number for tonight. C'mon over.
My trio's at the
Monkey House tonight.
It wouldn't kill me if you came!

So excited about our show here Saturday night. Opener JOE CHRISTIANO is one of my favorite songwriters anywhere and you need to hear him! We just learned my Tarzan song, a funky, singalong meditation on the downside of fame. Come on over for a really fun night!

Another great week coming up here. We don’t often host touring acts because the turnout is so unpredictable. But singer/songwriter CAROLINE AIKEN, on the road all the way from Atlanta, never fails to please. She’s smart, funny, and manages to find interesting that make her songs original and provocative. FRIDAY NIGHT her co-bill is DAVID GANS, known to many of you through his work as a Grateful Dead historian and also as a sharp-eyed songwriter and musical social critic.
SATURDAY bring the return of unique blues man JON LAWTON. With colorful guitar chops and a crunchy voice that sounds like no one else, he’ll be backed by his fabulous band THE ORPHANS. This is presented as part of our ongoing blues series curated by Raag and Norton.
Two shows on SUNDAY! David Reiley is back with a matineé performance of his interactive EXPERIMENT show, which gains momentum with each new presentation. Later that evening we’ll feature up-and-comer SOPHIA CENTER, a pop vocalist of fer big hooks and precocious insight.

Still some open mic slots available. The other shows are also not yet sold out! Reserve seats: [email protected] or just pop in.

The first in the Monkey House's series of political fundraisers went GREAT! John Higham, Edie O'Hara, Jeff and Liz, and Sugar Mountain all killed it -- and look at look what happened. THese benefits will continue on the first Saturday of each month, August-October.

The money we gather tonight will be used to hound Democrats to get out to vote, drive little old ladies to the polls, and do all the crucial things that make up “the ground game” — the less-than-glamorous operations where elections are won or lost. I don’t need to tell you how much is at stake.
We still have seats for tonight’s benefit so please come on over and give what you can. 100% of what we make at the door will be donated to FLIP THE VOTE and distributed to the candidates with the best chance of winning.
Why FLIP THE VOTE?
Do you know the name of the congressional candidate who raised the most money in 2022? Neither do I. We can’t remember him because he lost in a landslide to Margorie Taylor Greene. All those resources wasted on a race that was never even going to be close; this is the kind of mistake an organization like Flip the Vote works to avoid.

Poor Kate Burkart had to cancel her set due to cruel Covid, so I'll be playing five songs to open. Come on over. The Vultures are hysterical, loads of fun, and even... brilliant!

We're throwing a big fundraiser this Saturday and reservations are disappointing so far. YIKES! Great show for a great cause.

Still some space in the circle!!!

This. (If you get a paywall, transcript below in comments.)
Opinion | To Serve His Country, President Biden Should Leave the Race The president’s inadequate performance in the debate made it clear he is not the man he was four years ago.

Meanwhile, my mom would have been 96 today.

Two of my favorite singer/songwriters! Please support the dying art of getting-off-your-streaming-ass-and-coming-out-to-hear- great-local-music!

What a wonderful week! Come on over, no reservations needed.

Most of the GOAT arguments are silly and this is the silliest of all. There's simply no argument.

Not enough warm summer nights in the Bay Area. But when they happen...

Just finished the draft of my new Kafka musical (script and audio) so I'm getting in the spirit.

Sorry, Saturday night's show has been canceled due to illness.

Please come out tonight and support your local Monkey House. Two very entertaining and talented gentlemen.

Come on by, and bring your favorite h***h. This is most excellent h***h music.

WOO-HOO!
