Masonicare at Mystic and OptoCeutics are finalists in the Emerging Technology category of the 2026 McKnight's Excellence in Technology Awards.
The work started inside the Masonicare at Mystic memory care neighborhood. In a six-week Phase 1 program, 10 residents used EVY, a precision-engineered 40Hz light, for one hour a day. Caregivers recorded what they observed each week:
1. 9 of 10 residents completed the full program.
2. 71.4% of weekly Mood and Sleep assessments were rated "Improved."
3. Caregivers reported a lighter workload for 7 of 9 residents.
Masonicares Phase 2 expands to up to 40 residents over 26 weeks. It tracks the measures that drive cost and quality in memory care:
1. As-needed (PRN) medication use
2. Falls, with and without injury
3. Activities of daily living (ADLs)
4. Caregiver time spent on redirection and one-on-one supervision
A special thank you for the leadership of Ann Collette, Lauren Dubuque, Paula Smith, and the Masonicare team.
Winners will be announced at the McKnight's Tech Awards + Summit on September 16.
